The Keating Whip video has Mr. Keating flailing at his assistant and the guy isnt even wearing eye protection! I teach the bullwhip and safety is the top priority. Anthony Delongis drove this issue home when i studied under him. For my first lesson he showed up with eye protection, long sleeves and a baseball cap to protect his face from slashing motions. I recommend all of this. -Steve Kohn >From: Nat Nickele >Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net >To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net >Subject: [Eskrima] Re: Bullwhips >Date: Sun, 2 Nov 2003 16:16:05 -0800 (PST) > >Greetings, >In regards to bullwhips... The big difference in a taser and a stun gun appears to be the "wave" emitted. Tasers are using a T-wave. It doesn't just shock you it disrupts communication to the brain. The air taser web site puts energy weapons in three categories. Stun weapons - www.airtaser.com/pages/products/stun.html EMD weapons - www.airtaser.com/pages/products/emd.html Shaped pulse weapons - www.airtaser.com/pages/products/shapedpulse.html Each one sounds better than the last. >From their literature it appears that a taser should be significantly better than a stun gun. I remember that it was agreed that there would be no point to continuing the fight should Eric close, but have no memory of any limitation upon Tom and his whip. And yes, his 4 footer is considerably faster than his 6-- of course the distance to travel is 33% less too ;-) Ray, Eric tells me he sent in a post on this on Tuesday-- which still has not appeared. I had to help my father through rehab for his shoulder, and it is probably the worst kind. I have also worked with people with knee surgery, and have recovered from several knee injuries my self, but I would still take that over shoulder any time. Not that I would really like either. Take it easy, heal up, and I hope you are back in fighting shape soon. The type we have know is model M26 by Taser International Inc, Scottsdale, Arizona, 85260, and I'm 99% sure its the same one we used. It's 50,000 volts, 26 watts. During one test, we hooked the electrodes to a guy who is 6'4", 240+lbs, has a good punch and looks a lot like Lurch from the Munsters. He was told to 'attack' (using a training knife) another trainee. On the command of go, he tried to sprint the 8-10 feet to the 'victem', but he only got one step before the taser was activated. He fell at the victems feet shaking like a useless lump. It was almost comical, but we ached ourselves, too much so to laugh. There are a lot of things that have to go smoothly for a taser to work(like any weapon) but the effects of the taser can be a beautiful thing. Paul Woodruff (Sorry Ray,I had to retype this as I think my first posting got eaten up by my computer; then I forgot to update the subject line) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. Do you remember the make and model of the Taser that you experienced or saw in use that had this effect? -Steve --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues available @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com.
