Though I'm not sure that he teaches a specifically Silat class. But I can ask. Right now Harimau is kind of a tender subject with me - literally :-) I taught a couple of hours of it a couple of days ago and my thighs and glutes are still exacting their price if I sit for very long. As far as the FMA studies are concerned, I'm doing just fine in that regard as Guro Dan McConnell and I are on the Board of Directors of the International Modern Arnis Federation (IMAF, Inc.) and have access to training with long time students of Prof Presas. In addition, I attend multiple Modern Arnis camps and seminars all over the country. As far as the silat is concerned, Guro Dan and I would be interested in whatever silat system teaches harimau. That's the aspect of Pa Herman Suwanda's system that we fell in love with. As others have noted on this list, the merging of FMA and Silat is extremely compatible. Ibu Rita Suwanda has taken over as the head of Mande Muda International. You can find an instructor on the Suwanda Academy website at http://www.suwandaacademy.com/instructors.html Any of the people listed on that website should be able to teach you Harimau in the style which Pak Herman taught. Note: It seems that there are three teachers in Ohio. -- Alex --__--__-- Message: 3 From: "Fred O" To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Date: Tue, 25 Nov 2003 00:26:08 +0000 Subject: [Eskrima] How to finish Escrima Sticks Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net I just recently purchased a bundle of sticks. I thought I was getting a good deal when I saw the price, then I got the sticks. They were completly unfinished. I don't have a clue of what to do with them. I would like some help on how to finish them. If anyone out there could help I would be grateful, I am not to concerned about the looks as long as I can use them. Any articles, instructions or pictures will help. Thank you.
