Roberto Torres has some stuff on this. Both Uncle Bill and one of my Guru's, Harold Koning, have material from a clinch and not the usual "shock and lock" method silat players prefer. If you view Randy Couture teaching, and watch him move from a clinch, you see the "silat-ish" approach to sweeps, throws, angulation, etc. in a wider, more sportive context. I'd prefer, butting, elbowing, kneeing, scratching, stabbing, or even throwing dirt or Starbuck's at the bad guy to make the throwing from "clinch" easier and more destructive. I go by the old boxing strategy,.."Get them drunk before you mug them." I am itching to see a well trained grappler/silat player like Marc Denny, Stephen Kesting, Guy Chase, or Tom Kier, produce material on the SouthEast Asian empty hands with Grappling methods. ..Come on guys,..I'll be first in line to buy the DVD! I'm waiting ;-)) Tom Furman www.physicalstrategies.com --__--__-- Message: 3 From: "JENNIFER THYSSEN" Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Thanksgiving To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Date: Fri, 28 Nov 2003 10:20:20 -0500 Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hi Guro Gat! Sam "Rotty Dog" My idea is to vary the sticks that I use: length, weight, diameter, characteristics, etc. Typically I fought (fight?) with a pair of 31s, but was ogling some 33s that I think it was Dog Russ was using at the Gathering. Craftily I take advantage of the opening presented by your question to mention that coming soon will be a line of Dog Brothers Martial Arts stickfighting gear-- including sticks. There will be a "Top Dog" signature model ( dense 30") a Salty Dog model (KK sticks per his specs) and, ahem, a "Crafty Dog" model (a pair of 31s with certain features). I now pause for humorous repartee. Yip! It blew me away!! So much was revealed!! Lines of movement across the body in relation to cut lines. There were hits that I didnt see before, and lines towards locks that were previously hidden. B-B-Buuuttt, now there is a whole other batch of stuff to trouble my sleepless nights. How do I go behind after I do this?? Should I go low line on this entry?? Why doesnt low line work for me?? Whats that smell??? Much Thanks to Guro Dan. Gord --------------------------------- Post your free ad now! Yahoo!
