He had a great time and enjoyed the martial science. The rules were a bit puzzling for him since he trains with the old timers in Caracas and Venezuelan country. He is used to a rougher, looser form of fighting. There are more rules is LaCanne. He was disqualified 7 times! At 62, he still gets a kick out of swinging LaCanne or his trusty Lemonwood. Tom Furman-www.physicalstrategies.com By the way, he met some silat men from Madagascar. That sounds exotic. --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Mon, 8 Dec 2003 10:01:16 -0800 (Pacific Standard Time) From: "francis.serrano@sbcglobal.net" To: Subject: [Eskrima] the last samurai Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Dear Fellow Escrimadors, If you haven't seen the movie The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise then by all means go see it. The acting was superb, the characters where passionate, and best of all the fight scenes were intense. Do not be turned off by Tom Cruise being the flick (for I almost was) it is a great movie. For those who have seen it? What did you guys think? We all loved it - thought it was the best movie of 2003, in fact. They had also already conquered the Islands. So they weren't all that worried about a bunch of unorganized guys hitting each other with big knives. Groups of organized guys drilling with muskets, swords and cannon would have worried them a lot more. --__--__-- Message: 5 From: "Adam J. The acting was great, and the action was incredible. I also like the authenticity of the times. I give the movie a big thumbs up and encourage everyone to see it. It featured Savate and they went into a little bit of cane fighting that the French gentlemen of old used for self defense. Any info out there? It looked very flowery, in some respects, but they had a lot of power shots interspersed throughout. I saw some stuff with the footwork that impressed me. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Dear group, Does anyone know where I can get some good Filipino drum music our general drum music to use when I teach or I am working out. I have often found this extremely beneficial for drills and develop rhythm in fighting. I like the mind set it puts me in! Any names of groups or artists would be a great help.
