I had it for several years on tape and liked it very much. The beat is not quite as fast as (e.g.) Balinese gamelon, but quite uptempo and simpler, as well. Well worth the price ($4) if you can record off of an LP player. I always found it very good for training: Philippine Gong Music from Lanao; Muranao Kakolintang. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net I saw the movie sunday...Wow!!! My thoughts were: to become a Samurai training starts at childhood till you die; Even family (the widow) accepts the sacrifice and honor of a warrior husband wife; tradition and ancient way of life won over cannons, gatling guns, rifles, and politics - wise emperor; and of course the super sword fight scenes. Admired their training and respect to one another. They hit hard but practised excellent "control" on the neck decap. technique. Last, New Zealand where the movie was shot is Beautiful!!! Jorge V. Penafiel totoamy@fuse.net -----Original Message----- From: francis.serrano@sbcglobal.net Subject: [Eskrima] the last samurai Dear Fellow Escrimadors, If you haven't seen the movie The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise then by all means go see it. The acting was superb, the characters where passionate, and best of all the fight scenes were intense. Do not be turned off by Tom Cruise being the flick (for I almost was) it is a great movie. For those who have seen it? What did you guys think? Gumagalang, FS --__--__-- Message: 5 Date: Tue, 9 Dec 2003 06:37:06 -0800 (PST) From: Don Pentz Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Training music with a beat! The History Channel (cable TV) had a good review of on their "History vs. Hollywood" series. Excellent to get their view on what was "history" in the movie and what was "Hollywood". The photography and NZ location was amazing. It has been my guess that the systems that have Dizon and/or Villabrille lineage all share this strike/stab. Comments?
