It was interesting on one level but, overall, I had no use for it. Mike -----Original Message----- From: Dale [mailto:info@kalieskrima.com] Sent: Tuesday, December 09, 2003 9:56 PM To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Discovery channel I'm hearing from non-martial arts friends that the Discovery Channel special on martial arts was very good. I'm sorry I missed it. Unfortunately nobody I know locally taped it. Its too bad alright. Now if I did know a guy that taped it, I'd be glad to pay for shipping. But again, I'm not sure anybody I know taped it. Yep, its a shame. Check them out. Steve From: "Shawn McCarthy" > To: > Date: Mon, 8 Dec 2003 21:22:42 -0600 Subject: [Eskrima] Training music with a beat! Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Dear group, Does anyone know where I can get some good Filipino drum music our general drum music to use when I teach or I am working out. I have often found this extremely beneficial for drills and develop rhythm in fighting. I like the mind set it puts me in! Any names of groups or artists would be a great help. It was a groaner. Discovery Channel has a website dedicated to it http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/xma/xma.html which indicates that it's airing again Thursday, Dec. 11, at 8 p.m. But don't say I didn't warn you. I don't think I've ever seen a really "good" piece of TV on the Martial Arts. There was one called something like "Top 10 martial arts" that had segments on the Gracies and the Dog Brothers that were pretty good, but I'm not sure what the ranking system was, because they both lost out to aikido. :-) I liked "Conquest" on the History Channel. It was a bit overdramatic, but I usually picked up an interesting fact or two. For example, they explained that the rondel dagger (a long dagger with a handle that looked kind of like a cable spool -- very odd-looking) was intended to be used very close-in, in an ice-pick grip. It looks like it's been canceled. Bummer. ======================================================================= Tom Valesky -- tvalesky@patriot.net http://www.patriot.net/users/tvalesky --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues available @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com.
