How does the average working guy cross train in various martial styles?? I dont run my own school and work a 9 -5. My funds, with a baby on the way and my car being toasted in an accident recently, (with my wife in the car yet!!) are paper thin. I am interested in training in either muay thai or bjj in addition to the fma. I dont know, call me addicted. I dont know where the money is going to come from. I guess if its meant to be the means will present themselves. I hope its soon though. Any ideas or personal experience would be greatly appreciated. I have been wondering if I should sue the guy that I collided with. Maybe thats the way to do it. Sorry if this is off topic but I really dont have anywhere else to talk aboot this stuff. A few weeks back at the Inosanto Academy in Los Angeles, some practitioners of Indian Kalupayat (sp?) came to demonstrate their art. The demonstration and following discussion was very fascinating, as both they and Guru Dan offered their insights as to the connection between Kalupayat and Silat, Kali, etc. Thanks for the info. I generally find myself unexpectedly drawn into the History Channel's programs, but this will be something I'll look forward to. Intentionally. Great Deal. The sheath had one hairline crack, with the grain, that is easily reinforceable. I can't find much wrong with the blade. Good heavy weight, very sharp. Nice to practice with. For forty bucks plus shipping you just can't go wrong. I'd like to thank Mr. Balicki for his offer. You can develop very basic skill and knowlede from these resources. During that stage of my life with small children money is tight! I made alot of my own training equipment which kept the cost down also. If you can use tools it is not hard to get the meassurements needed for this equipment and much much cheeper. I would also try to networking with people from other systems and shar ideas, and train. I had a network for 4 training partners that had the resource and where willing to shar their knowledge. Where this is truely a will, there is always a way to learn that are appropriate and do not resort to the methods you addressed. I hope this helps! Very flashy. I cant do a 540 spinning hook kick so I tend to think the stuff is &*$#. The history channel show on Muay Thai was interesting. She did seem to run into problems with some of the culture, not only in Thailand but in India also, because she was a woman. I guess its taboo in some respects for women to be practitioners. Nice to see that they relented and let her train. The K.K. stuff was very cool. I liked the double sword work. Would have been nice to see a fma practitioner tear it up on the t.v.!!! The traditional Muay thai instructor was a surprise too!! He was doing takedowns and showed a couple of cut kicks I hadnt seen before. I didnt know Muay Thai had takedowns that were of a more technical sort. I usually thought it was just head twisting and leg kicks from the clinch. A question concerning takedowns.. Most are done in a controlled fashion in the training hall. With the reality of "fighting" lasting only seconds in most cases, I think that "crashing" into the opponent is a more realistic approach to this. Most preach realism in training, but crashing tends to break and bust people up. I am kind of torn with this because I have injuries that I cant really work around. (Elbows) I dont want to be dead weight in the training group as that would just wilt my ego down to nothing. Also, I am thinking "what the hell are you doing here, man??" Is there a possibility of progression in skill if a person is unable to do some of the stuff. Is it worth it to train anyway, despite the injuries getting worse?? Sorry to bring you down people, but I do think this way about training from time to time. Regards, gord --------------------------------- Post your free ad now! Yahoo!
