Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Martial: charachteristics of war, military...... I had a quick look at your link Phil, very interesting. Don't agree with many things said on there but I can see that it will appeal to many. Having done many managerial courses I have learnt that there are a lot of different people out there who are made up differently and who therefore may place their values in a priority order different to mine. While it may suit them it may not suit me and since I am the one who has to sleep at night its maybe best that I answer to my own conscience, but in being aware of their priorities we can tolerate other views, allow the discussion to take place and come to a common ground that usually solves the issue. Yes im prepared to defend myself and my familly and we can spend all year debating how best to do it, but until faced with that situation I don't know how im going to do that. Yes I have really smashed people and at the same time I have 'turned the other cheek'. The situation determines the response. While I keep my martial art training as realisticly possible within the confines of my time and interest, I do it daily not in some testosterone wet dream mania but because I simply enjoy it. I don't do drugs, I raise my familly, I don't steal off people and I know that I give more to my friends than what I ask back. Effectively im happy and don't believe im blinded. Ive fought at the rough end of life and struggled to raise single handedly a son when many others would have drowned themselves in the bottle or the needle. Ive had to work ungodly hours to pay bills and struggle to make christmas morning worthwhile. You want to talk about martial, every day has been martial and in many corners of the world there are people fighting to survive every day while we sit in relative luxury. Yes I want to smash the junkie who broke into my gym last week and stole for his fix, but I also know that wont solve the problem that we have until the governments stop jerking us around and stop the poppy fields being grown. So I don't know maybe in your eyes I might be one of those fools, but I wish you well. I hope you find your peace, im finding mine even if it doesn't look like that to many others! ; ) Pat Davies -- __--__-- Message: 6 From: Phil Elmore The problem is, there are a LOT of fools out there. I've seen discussions at various martial arts fora in which it is painfully obvious that too many of the participants have forgotten the meaning of "martial." It kind of turns my stomach, really, and was the inspiration for The Martialist. - Phil www.themartialist.com --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Steven Lefebvre" To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Date: Tue, 23 Dec 2003 13:09:37 +0000 Subject: [Eskrima] Tuhon Tom Kier Seminar Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hello Everyone, Here is another upcoming great Sayoc Kali training opportunity! He had found some bricks and was chipping out large hunks with his right index finger. I thought it might be an old brittle brick, went and looked later and it was nearly new, and very hard. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New Yahoo!
