I used to say that 'anyone can cold-cock anyone'. The last time I got into a heated argument over this comment I proceeded to place a cold and frosty one on either side of the individual's jaw (just happened to have one in each hand). Point being that we cannot be onguard 24/7. When we're around friends or tossing down a few at the local pub or whatever, we will let down our guard a bit. This is the time when we are more vulnerable and when someone with 0 months of experience just might get to us. (Sh)It happens." I am sure this is right. A determined, *non-telegraphed* attack from a contact distance is impossible to stop. What surprised me recently that such attack will get home even if performed by relatively slow people (small women!). This was a result of some "field testing" of eye jabs. The defender knew that the attack was coming, just not when. I suspect that this is where the conflict management continuum comes in. An experienced "fighter" will recognize that the attack is imminent and take the appropriate action rather than relying on his superfast reflexes. A very experienced attacker will try a distracting manoeuvre beore the sucker punch. Many of these people will not have done a day of martial art training. They just know what works... Just the other day my girlfriend accidentally slapped me across the neck while watching a movie. We let our guards down when we're with people we trust. However, I specifically mentioned what happens during sparring practice, or when we're ready for a fight. Obviously, someone who is faster and a better fighter will probably win. But that is not getting hit by something unexpected, that's just not having the speed or experience to handle something. I'm thinking along the lines of getting hit with a suckerpunch or a TKD person not knowing how to effectively deal with a knife attack. (Bad examples, I know) Any more comments? I think I seen you in a Filipino m a mag. under PK. is this true. if so why do you say such disrespectful things about a person whom has absorbed more than many others can imagine disregarding? Maybe I viewed your post wrong? Mr.Inosanto is looked up to by many for his humbleness, and wealth of knowledge. so allow us respectful students to be charmed by a legend thank you Robert g. --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues available @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com.
