We've been beating on them for quite some time now. Not having any problems with them.. I got mine from a dealer at a martial arts event for $30 a piece. and so far have been well worth the $$... He's put a lot of work into it, and it's full of useful stuff. Snip: Todd, how is Mushtaq? I had the pleasure of working with him last summer and just worked out with Guro Brandt Hassan Ali on Saturday. I was not aware of Mushtaq's website so, many thanks! I can hear him saying many of those rules now, especially #'s 9, 12,13. For what my opinion is worth, Silat Zulfikari is awesome! I believe it was at Bob Cameron's house. --__--__-- Message: 4 From: "Bill Lowery" To: Date: Wed, 4 Feb 2004 18:19:48 -0000 Subject: [Eskrima] Re: Krishna's tournaments Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hi Doug, > It would seem his encouragement does not extend to ex-students.< Possibly not, but he's told me a few times that he was getting info on the new tournament circuit out to me since towards the end of last year, and I'm still waiting! I think he's just trying to get everything sorted out before he opens it out to the general public. Get some 1/2" pvc pipe and some pipe insulation. I'm sure you can work out the rest. The ends (or the entire stick if you desire) can be wrapped in PVC tape. Still hard enough to hurt...and about $3/stick. Have to admit the ActionFlex ones do look good though. _________________________________________________________________ Scope out the new MSN Plus Internet Software — optimizes dial-up to the max! http://join.msn.com/?pgmarket=en-us&page=byoa/plus&ST=1 --__--__-- Message: 6 From: "Mark F. His behavior and questionable statements concerning a past Dog Brothers gathering can be found in the archives of this very list, and his propensity for badmouthing his competitors is well known in the industry. I have never seen his instructional videos, and Phil's review seems pretty positive. However, I think one's money is better spent somewhere other than Cold Steel. Just my $0.02, hoping I avoid a libel suit... mfw Mark F. I deliberately worded my conclusions towards that end, too -- pointing out that the viability of the system depends on whether you believe range can be effectively dictated and maintained. I don't recall if I touched on the nature of the primarily "dueling" format presented, but it's worth taking into account. As for Mr. Thompson, I think it's fair to say that he's more than a little controversial as a person and a personality. His bombastic marketing is also well known. Should one consider the personality of the manufacturer when deciding on what to spend one's money? There's nothing wrong with so doing. I tend to take products as such, asking myself, "Does this product work well?" Many of Cold Steel's knives do. Personality is more integral to an instructional video, so I suppose one should weight it more when considering the purchase of such material. Many people feel more strongly about whom they ultimately support with their money than do I. (I also don't, generally speaking, believe in boycotts as a means of political influence.) I certainly wouldn't fault anyone, however, for saying, "The owner of Company X is a jerk, so I'm not going to enrich him by buying Company X products."
