Sabung (or sabong) is the Tagalog word for cockfight, that is correct; sabungan is a cockfight match and also means the place where the cockfights are held. You should understand that in Tagalog, the suffix -in is not a common usage. Tagalog uses infixes and prefixes more than suffixes. Therefore, if the producer of the dvd wants to introduce the knife-fighting style based on cockfighting, the proper name should be silat sabung. 2)I am curious though, at the combination of the names silat and sabung. Is this from the southern Philippines? If so, which part? Which ethnolinguistic group practices it? 3)Please, please, please, if you are going to spell the name of our country, do it correctly. The proper name is Philippines, not Filipines. We are Filipinos, from the Philippines. Please take note of the proper spelling. 4)Are you sure about the name Dos Labahas for two sword fighting? Again, in Tagalog, labaha is a borrowed word from Spanish and means razor. So in essence, the name of the two sword method is two razors? > (2) Silat Sabungin vol. 1 > this dvd introduces a > short knife fighting style > from the filipines based on cock fighting. Lots of > good, basic entres, and > targeting. > (3) Silat Sabungin vol. 2 > this is a follow-up to > vol. 1 (obviously) and > focuses on evasions and counters. > Note: Silat Sabungin vol. 3 should be finished > within 4-6 weeks. There are clips you > can watch just to give you a flavor of the dvds. > > Anyway, those three in particular should be great > additions to your style. > Hope that helps. Anyway, please understand, my comments are only on the proper usage of the names that are used to represent styles coming from my country. I have not seen the material presented by Blaise Loong, so I do not comment on that. With respect, Bot __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I would contact Lavonne Martin c/o of the Inosanto Academy for details. What a treasure for you to have trained with him. You're truly lucky. On your inquiry of La Union FMA, it's been awhile since I've been back. La Union was the province of the late GM's Ramiiro Estalilla Sr., Gregorio Bacungan, Teodoro & Esteban Maglaya. There aren't too many of their students or relatives still "playing" & unfortunately, they are old school & accustomed to the old ways, not acknowledging their education in the arts. Trust me, being related to them didn't account for much & I had to gain their trust & prove my sincerity before they revealed anything (only behind closed doors & from public eyes). My father told me how he trained with them. I experienced this first hand in P.I. You might have some luck in the Pangasinan area. Some descendants from GM Santiago Toledo & GM Collado may still be active. Also, Baguio City still has many players & last I heard, are more accomodating to visitors. Doce Pares & Balintawak are two fantastic systems with great teachers & fighters. I would suggest that you study the history and lineage of these two wonderful systems before you visit Cebu. Good luck & enjoy your PI visit.
