I am interested in one day opening one. The problem is, a lot of schools are empty. Not the case if you're tkd or karate and can stand teaching kids, (not that I have had the pleasure of teaching them and I have a kid of my own, so its not a slur or anything...:) and martial arts is not where the money is. Or is it?? Its a big risk and overhead is not something that I would or could support out of my own pocket. Also, to make the project something different from the norm is something that Im thinking of. I see a lot of businesses that have martial arts and personal training or massage or yoga..etc. etc. I am sure I will hear some intelligent feedback and a lot of great ideas from the great minds we have here on the digest!! "Trample the weak" just seems like a strong message to send out to people seeking dangerous knowledge (i.e. knife fighting). Im sure it wouldnt matter at all to most folks. Unfortunately, some people might read into it and come away with dangerous attitides. The last thing you want to do is offer that sort of validation to a crazy mind. Be safe in your training. -Steve Kohn >From: ulfhead@integrity.com >Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net >To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net >Subject: [Eskrima] Re: Racism? Ethnocentrism? Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Felipe, point well taken. I will certainally pass on to Blaise all the linguistic details you and others have been pointing out. There will be a more detailed explanation as to the origins of Silat Sabungin, such as the one I supplied Felipe with, posted on www.yashai.com a.s.a.p. As the site claims, it is under deep construction. I do what I can on my conference periods or after school when I kick all the kids out to go home so please be patient. I think, however, that I am going to take the advice I have recived from various people here in regards to Blaise Loong's background. I will let him answer as it seems that certain subscribers here want lots of details as to his teachers outside the states. His internet access is limited for the moment but perhaps he can write it down and I will type it up here for those interested. ******************************************************************************* As for myself, I want to get back to why I signed up here which is to ask, learn, and share. I am by nature a student first. I love to learn and train. Here is a question I have... Does anyone know a good source for bolos? I used to get some basic, worker/utility bolos from Cecil of Kris Cutlery for anout $20-30 when he used to have a booth at the yearly gun show at the Pamona Fairgrounds, CA. Since he no longer carries them I have had little or no luck. Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. - Tyrkon Lawson - --__--__-- Message: 6 From: "George Distor" To: Subject: [Eskrima] FMA Fighting Gear Date: Sat, 21 Feb 2004 09:58:38 -0700 Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Since you purchased these items at a very low cost, could you please tell us how much it would cost to ship these items from the Philippines. It seems that shipping from overseas is very expensive and to get it in one week will probably cost more than usual. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net With all due respect, Master Anderson, your new book "Weaponless Fighting Applications Of Modern Arnis" is not the first book to be exclusively devoted to the empty hand applications of ANY FMA. It may be the first book regarding Modern Arnis but not the first in regards to ALL FMA. Grandmaster Ernesto Presas' "Filipino Modern Mano Mano" and more recently the book "Buno" by my instructor Gat Puno Baet are examples of books that predate yours. Anyway, congratulations on your new book. It is always good to have something that will perpetuate knowledge and understanding of any subject. Respectfully, Al Sardinas Student of Garimot System of Arnis Dear Al, Your are RIGHT. Those two books DO predate mine and sorry to all for the error. Thanks for the congratulations. I am proud and happy with the outcome of the book.
