The short and pragmatic answer to your question is, that you win the fight when the opponent signals that he wants to quit. Beyond that, your question touches the philosophical meaning of the event. As was explained to me, the primary meaning of the event in the Philippines was not about the win of the individual. Each of the eight fighters represented his tribe and the fights were part of a ceremony with the goal of bringing the fighters and the tribes closer together. From what Danny told me the ceremony was successful. In spirit it is similar to the meetings of the European Pekiti-Tirsia Fighters League: We come together from different countries and different Pekiti-Tirsia Gyms, we fight and thus we exchange experience and strengthen our mutual trust and friendship. Everybody wins: respect and friendship based on experience. Burning sticks!
