But hey when you only have three rules - no kickinging to the knee or head and no strikes to the groin that isn't too bad. Everything else was fair game so to get that by the insurance people is amazing :) No to mention Damon did it three times. 1st was a warning, 2nd and minus one point and the third, well you know. It will only build for an even better fight between these two in the near future. Hope you will all come out and if not compete definitely cheer everyone on. Thanks and keep training, Larry --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Wed, 21 Apr 2004 10:59:14 -0700 From: Gints Klimanis To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Re: Uncle Bill seminar Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net >I was fortunate enough to attend the Uncle Bill de Thouars seminar in >Arkansas this past weekend. I heard him talking about retirement in 2000 at the Campbell, CA Gasshuku event. If we're lucky, he'll continue to only *talk* about wanting to retire. Keep it going, Uncle Bill. --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Wed, 21 Apr 2004 19:03:31 +0100 (BST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?John=20Melchizedek=20Intong?= To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] RE: Johnny Chiuten Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hi, GM Johnny started out as a kung fu fighter, under the tutelage of Manila's legendary "old man", Lao Kim. An incident led him to study arnis back in the day; he was challenged to a duel by Remy Presas, the latter, telling him to pick a weapon of choice against his two rattan sticks. Johnny chose his favorite; the 9 sectional whip. Doc Lengson, the appointed referee predicted a mis match and did not allow the match to go through. Johnny asked for 1 year to study arnis, to even out the odds. He went home to cebu and the first club he went to was the doce pares, where he was turned down. But then, Balintawak Arnis took him in and it was there he learned. A year later, Remy cancelled the fight because Johnny had studied where he had, and said that there was no to prove anything anymore by fighting. As far as i know, he doesnt teach anyone anymore except for his fraternity brothers, and lives in the province of cebu. But we see him from time to time :). We're lucky, we're his fraternity brothers :) As far as FMA is concerned, he has a new system, all his own, which he pieced together from his over 40 years in the martial arts. Needless to say, i practice that system, but i also study Balintawak Arnis under Bob Tabimina. Cheers!!! --------------------------------- Yahoo!
