Chucking shake blocks, or working on a >framing crew will give ou a better core strength. In >fact the newestr thing in fitness this stress on Core >Strength is achieved by Labourers every day. True. Now, how can the rest of us develop this strength without switching jobs? Sports conditioning research is about learning the most efficient ways to develop particular abilities. Brick laying doesn't make you a sprinter or a runner, but it sure develops those muscles used to lay bricks. It would be good to know what the minimum number of brick lifts (size, weight) and the regularity required to develop your Muay Thai champs core strength. The kettlebell is much sturdier than a brick. Many of the movements are probably limited by finger strength, so it's often a trade off between training hands vs. the rest of your body. In gloved fighting events, finger strength is of little value. BTW, I've also been impressed by the hand strength of laborers. I have a 12" a 12" x 1.5" brick tile in my office. Now, the trick is using it more often. --__--__-- Message: 2 To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Date: Thu, 13 May 2004 19:04:19 -0600 From: Bill Poteet Subject: [Eskrima] Baguio Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net There used to be someone who taught at the YMCA/Boysclub in Baguio.
