My appologies for the late gratitude, I have been out of town for a couple weeks and have just gotten through reading all of my back e-mails. I hope you all have a great holiday weekend. And for those of you outside the States, enjoy your weekend anyhow. I would like to have an outline of such blades (including handles) so that proper blanks can be made.  Anyone interested in helping me with this endeavor please contact me off-list at: amacobra@hotmail.com I will be more than willing to arrange some form of compensation for the time and effort given. Thank you all for your time. Sincerely, Matt Williams _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected? Except for my leatherman and my Swiss army knife, I don't think that it is intelligent to carry a knife for self-defense. Explaining to the police how a stabbing was self-defense when you basically have to step into your assailant is a big pain. Second, I would assume that the prick was trying to be a pick pocket at least, perhaps even a stiff armed robber. I would elbow him hard in his solar plexus at least. NO ONE has any business reaching into your pockets. It is a severe violation of your person and should be deal with swiftly. You should be covered legally too. It sounds like the guy is a major prick. Somehow or another he must think that this is a big joke, he has no respect for other peoples property or persons. Legal searches buy law enforcement personal ecxepted. And no, it would not matter to me if he did have a grin on his face. If I caught the attempt early, then I'd hope to get the wrist and peel 'em off before they got it unclipped. > Would it make any difference if they handed it back to you with a > big grin and an exaggerated display of manners? He/she taught the said BB, he/she bears responsibility for the BB's behavior. Said BB acted irresponsibly as well as dangerously (I agree it can be construed as an attack), and the teacher can be asked why do you allow your student to act that way. For me, any teacher who allows such behavior in his/her students shouldn't be allowed to teach. Unless the teacher disavows the student, and says he/she no longer considers this BB his/her student. In which case.... Now let's say he isn't trained in any MA, but really likes to do stupid and dangerous things. Deal with him according to the limits of your laws and customs. State University, Fresno as well as Fresno Community College. There were times I remember "playing" with many of the seasoned fencers & applying FMA. Initially not told what I was attempting to do, and in between (my) scores, I glanced over to see Manong Ramiro wearing a slight smile on his face as he observed what I was doing. I introduced some of these fencers to sinawali (2-foils/sabres) and the resultant jaw dropping is memorable. I haven't fenced in awhile, but have attended seminars under fencing Maestros who were incredibly skilled. Additionally,it did give me insight for my training under Guro Ted Lucaylucay's JKD. Just like anything, experience it & make your personal call on it's worthiness to your training. I did enjoy my training & wish we had local clubs. A few hours ago I attend the Eagles rock concert & unexpectedly ran into Kabaroan Master Ed Planas & his brother Parker Kenpo Master Huk Planas. Just goes to show you that we Martial Artists have other "normal" passions that enhancel our lives. On a final note, being Memorial Day here in the US, I wish to send respects to all the serviceman who are serving our country throughout the world. Special honor goes to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. There was a local soldier here, US Army Spc. Daniel Unger who died last Tuesday of a rocket blast in Baghdad. Unger, a 19 year old Okinawan Karate Blackbelt who studied under his father Marc, were supportive and close friends of the Estalilla Kabaroan Association. Our condolences go out to his family & friends. May God bless our soldiers, and God bless America. But a good friend reports that one of the BB at her school does it all the time. >She seemed a little non-plussed at my response which was along the lines of "Hasn't anyone slugged this idiot >yet?" May I offer for consideration that such an idiot is also a gift? There ARE bad people who have thought about such things and if you have not EXPERIENCED how your own weapon can be turned against you, you can easily be badly surprised at a vital moment. For example I was witness to a bad incident wherein A reached for the knife on B's waist band (A later said that B was going for his knife, whereas B said A when for it and he then sought to defend himself) and as the two struggled over the knife, C, a friend of A, came flying in at B's kidney with a substantial knife. B probably would have died but for the heroic intervention of D, who slung C off-course and E who shoved a table in between C and A-B. And all this happened where B knew of great tension between him and A and C. In the absence of such prior knowledge, the vulnerability is even greater. >> I have had one idiot come to me at work and grab from behind for my > knive in my right pant pocket, it turned out to be an incident at work > that caused us both to go in front of the boss for me putting him is a > hold and guiding him to the ground. > > He has never done it again though. > > Jared Dame Superior alertness! So back to the original questions: If you carry a knife and someone snatches it from your pocket and "hands it back to you with a big grin and an exaggerated display of manners" you are looking pretty foolish. And if this is done at a school where you are a guest/observer, this would be quite disrespectful. "Slugging the guy" (or "guiding him to the ground") seem perfectly reasonable to me. If you are doing less than this, then the question "WHY?" comes to mind. Concerning the BB and your woman friend: by his repetition of snatching her own knife to my thinking he is giving her a lesson which she obviously needs-- regardless of his motive (to be a jerk or to help her). Intriguing question. There are others, but they are the only ones I can recall at the moment. Hope that helps.
