Of course we can't do much normal (hardcore to some) training with pre-teens or even teens, but many adults do appreciate this type of training. They typically won't receive it at a McDojang, but when provided will frequently gravitate toward it. But it must be somewhat tempered with the fact that adults have to get up and go to work early the next morning. The majority of martial arts consumers are not looking for extreme training and need to be in a comfort zone to stay with a program. If you want to keep your schools lights on, you'll want to keep the casual practitioners happy. If you want a school of only hardcore guys, its advisable to get a second job to support yourself. -Steve Kohn >From: Roger Tinkoff >Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net >To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net >Subject: Re: [Eskrima] McDojos and "Hardcore" Training >Date: Thu, 17 Jun 2004 17:38:29 -0700 (PDT) > >--- steven ledwith wrote: > > I have taught "hardcore" classes at a MCDOJO and saw > > a > > surprising number of people leave the school > > entirely > > after being exposed to the "hardcore" training. It gives people a false sense of security. If a school focuses on the sports aspects, great. If they focus on the health aspects, great. If they focus on the fighting aspects, great. Or some combination thereof, great. As long as they're honest about what they do - with their students *and* themselves.
