His name is A.J. Geldersma. I've lost touch in the past year but he's very intense, always with a smile, big heart and bigger enthusiasm. BB's in multiple styles. I don't have contact info for him, that's why I didn't respond. He and I have tread alot of the same ground, no telling what else he's done since he went out there 10odd yrs ago(probably alot more). He's also the only guy I know of a KO through a WEKAF helmet(there's gotta be others). Of course he was also fighting amatuer KB at the time I think(around 2000). FWIW, I met some guys from High Desert recently at the WEKAF Nationals in Denver. Nice guys, very friendly and humble. There's a Modern Arnis instructor in Durango at the Durango Sports Club. We had some fun goofing around on a vacation I took there. It's something like $10 for a day pass at the sports club, but you may be able to meet up with him outside the club. Sorry, I don't have any contact info, and I forgot his name.... Also, my brother lives in Telluride, and there's an ex-cop who trains for WEKAF and MMA tournaments there, but I haven't met him yet. Finally, in Grand Junction (not really SW), there is High Desert Martial Arts. I believe they do some stick work, too. Date: Fri, 18 Jun 2004 17:59:13 +0000 Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net For me, the connotation of "hardcore" is to train with a physical intensity geared towards  combat (i.e. full contact rather than flow drills)...rather than taking an approach geared more towards general fitness. Not everyone wants to be a ring fighter. Some just want an "edge" over the average guy on the street. Some people that lift weights are bodybuilders, others just want to be in "good shape". Same idea. Extreme vs. Casual. -Steve Kohn >From: "al sardinas" >Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net >To: >Subject: [Eskrima] What's Hardcore? >Date: Fri, 18 Jun 2004 10:17:17 -0400 > >I tend to agree with Ray that what FMA considers normal might be hardcore to >some other martial artists. I just want my moneys worth when I pay for training now. The cultural decent of the instructor is of no concern to me. I know people who have wasted years training under phoney instructors before thay wised up. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New and Improved Yahoo! I have his Indonesian martial art book and was quite impressed by the conceptual explanations contained in that book. I was not aware that he had a videotape series until recently. The question is where can I shop for these videos ? Is there a website ? If so, the information would be much appreciated.
