The Official Rules are detailed enough to give one an outlook of what to expect. Based on my interpretation of the Rules and Scoring, it appears that the fighting at largo range will be favored since no clinching is allowed and participants will start over after 2 points are scored. I just have some questions: In the rules for both the knife and sword fighting, free hand blocking is allowed. Can you provide more information on this? It is hard to picture blocking a sword or knife with a hand. Can you provide the weight of the knives and swords that will be provided for use? Is it possible for Cold Steel to provide examples of the knife fighting and sword fighting and maybe different throwing competitions? The website states that this is the first challenge but I figure they have performed practice sessions in each category. Yes, ok, Presidents and Prime Ministers have 'advisers', of course, but it is they who take the ultimate responsibility. Responsiblity? No. Blame, yes. But I wonder just how much verbal bullets hurt, versus the ones that are aimed and fired at us? My buddies and I, in our "servant" point of view, have the ultimate responsibility: making sure we get on that freedom bird out of this hot, sh*tty ass sandbox together. --__--__-- Message: 5 Subject: RE: [Eskrima] No Lies Blade Alternative Date: Fri, 25 Jun 2004 11:25:30 -0400 From: "Jared Dame" To: Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Yes I will agree that the Virtual blade system is cheaper, but we did try them for a while and decided to continue with the No Lie Blades. First the construction was not what we were looking at, and the chalk needed constant reloading. The No lie blade uses lipstick (thus less reloading), and is build heavier and sturdier. Based on their construction they give the individual a more realistic look and feel to a real knife, and with this physiological aspect I believe that the training is enhanced by teaching your body the look and feel and when it comes time to perform in combat then your body already has the feeling for what your real knifes weight is. When it boils down to it, if you carry a weapon you should train that weapon as often as possible, but the cost of having a mock-up made for every potential weapon would be pretty high. As I see it the “No Lie Blade” solution is my preferred method for training for the actual time I need to use my knife. Good dialog though, lets keep it up! The grip is way to big and awkward, I just haven't had the time or inclination to get an actuall product in the works I just had these things for my guys to play with. On a side note sometimes if you get a good shot for a prolonged time, you can make some people loose control of the bladder, makes for a good laugh when training. We usually pass a couple around parties just to keep people awake. The record for a guy holding it on himself at one of our parties is just over 2 minutes. And he still had a steady hand and trigger finger. We've been trying to find something a little beefier. So far no one has been willing to shell out for Taser / law enforcement devices. We did solder some needles onto one to see if it hurt more sub-dermally. It really didn't. The needles were worse than the shock. -Steve ----- Original Message ----- From: "rockypasiwk" To: Sent: Friday, June 25, 2004 1:14 PM Subject: [Eskrima] Stun Gun Knifes > Ray, > > Actually I was playing around with these about 10 years ago, we took a stun > gun fashioned a peice of wood that fit between the 2 prongs wrapped it in foil > and the ran some wire from each prong to the foil made the top real blunt but > wrapped in foil, it worked pretty good, with the real stong guns you can > incompasitate someone pretty good!
