Our son is still there and so far in good health, note that I do not say safe. For all of those out there remember that those men and women that serve are our sons, fathers, mothers, daughters, beloved family members and friends and I will always give my support to those who serve to protect our freedoms. Service in the military is not an easy job for these soldiers. For whatever reason they volunteered themselves in the service of the military give thanks to the lord that they are willing to protect us and pray for their safe return. A POSTING FROM OUR WEBSITE: Our eldest son will be departing soon to continue serving our country in a more hazardous capacity. We were fortunate to have him here to share some of this past holiday season with us and spent our time just enjoying each other's company. Alas the time passed too soon. We thank the lord for giving us the time to spend with him. Please pray for our son as well as all of the servicemen and women who have volunteered to keep our country safe that they may return home to their loved ones and families and that they may be blessed with good health both physical and mental upon their return. Lord we ask that this conflict in the Middle East be resolved soon for all those who have suffered and ask also that you have mercy on those whom are presently in pain and suffering. We thank you for blessing us with the opportunity to enjoy our freedoms and lives that come with living in this great nation. Si Yuus Ma'ase V. Bill, It seems like even a hard hit with a wooden dowel would break bones. A reverse grip thrust to the clavicle or a thrust to the ribs would bust someone up pretty good, no? The reason I'm asking is because I use a wooden dowel, but with some pipe foam wrapped around it and duct-taped in place. Now you can hit very hard, the opponent knows when he's gotten hit, but there's no bone bruises or broken bones. To some extent, I feel like I wasn't *really* learning knife until I started sparring this way, because sparring has gotten so much more intense and high-powered. There's some downsides, like the fact that the padded "knife" doesn't look real at all (same problem as the dowel), but it solves any injury problems that unpadded knives have. "It's always the old who lead us to the war. It's always the young who die." -- Phil Ochs That is joy and sorrow of war ever since the Heroic Age ended. Back in the old old days being war chief meant a man led his men into the fight. If you didn't lead them back out in one piece you stopped being chief. And you probably stopped breathing since you were out there getting poked at along with the rest of the warriors. Later the king might not be in the actual battle. But his ambitious sons were and often got killed. Today only one member of Congress or the Senate has a child in Iraq. In Vietnam it was pretty much the same. Now the leaders are safely back behind the lines, thousands of miles away from any possible harm running you like a video game. If you die it's alright. They can always pop another quarter in the machine and sacrifice someone else for their ambitions. In the end a soldier's life is something to be spent for nation's great need. It should never be spent unless that need really is great.
