Think Gorge Patton, Gorge Armstrong Custer, Muhammad Ali; men with big skills, big balls and big egos. I think I found the Achilles character more interesting than most moviegoers, because I have met so many men like him. Strong willed men whose courage, discipline, decisiveness, great physical skills and high pain threshold, come so naturally to them that their confidence levels may seem like plan old arrogance to us mere mortals ("but Bill, if its true then it ain't bragging," they've told me). " I agree with your point about the warrior mindset. The only problem with Achilles being the archetype for this, was the fact that he was not a mere mortal. He was a demi-God who was Kevlar-proofed except for his heel. In fact, you can say that he was slain, not by Paris, but by the goddess Athena. The gods had once again intervened and decreed his fate. So the question arises, from the Homeric structure, was he mortal enough that he understood fear, pain, physical fatigue? Or was he impervious to all this, an emotionless fighting machine, driven only by desire for personal glory and knowing that his end would only come when the gods had so decreed? Was he a mortal warrior-hero, or just a pawn of the gods? It appears from your statements that the movie was able to portray him as the former. I understand your cheering for him then, and admiring his warrior mindset. Jay de Leon _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected?
