I'd like to point out that as a soldier, I am encouraged not to have political, religious, or ethnic points of view. I am encouraged to follow orders. The only time I really pay attention to such things is when they have an immediate bearing on my mission, like Sun Tzu said, " Know your enemy." Indeed, like the Delta operator said in Blackhawk Down, "When the first round goes past your head, politics, all that bullshit goes right out the window." On the other hand, why is the thread on the movie "Troy" going strong without complaints? END QUOTE Well, as one of the guilty parties of the Troy thread and as a serial drifter into subject matter frowned upon by that Grand Pooh Bah (who periodically yanks my leash to heel) may I proffer the following? Troy is a major effort at bringing to the screen one the great pieces of human literature concerning humans and war. In that it concerned a lot of fighting with swords its relevance to the FMA increases. And it is not likely to raise anybody's temperature the way a discussion of WW3 would. That said, on America's 228th birthday, I would like to offer my profoundest expressions of gratitude to our troops who are doing a fine, fine job at a tough, tough job in Afghanistan, Iraq, and elsewhere. For those of us here at home who would like to do more than bark about it, http://dogbrothers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=329 should help you find a practical way to do so. Indeed, like the Delta operator said in Blackhawk Down, "When the first >round goes past your head, politics, all that bullshit goes right out the window." On the >other hand, why is the thread on the movie "Troy" going strong without complaints? Probably because people are trying to keep things more-or-less friendly and civil and preserve the digest as a place where people can talk about Filipino martial arts. Movie reviews will come and go, and nobody but rabid fans will care much about them. Political and religious arguments have a way of turning nasty and personal and going on for years. The discussion about Troy" pretty much burned itself out in a couple of days. An argument about the war could easily tear the forum apart forever and never end. >Anyway, I took advantage of the Army's bungling supply system and wound up with a >classic US Army "Bushwhacker" Machete; it's totally subdued in a nonreflective black >finish. As soon as I took ahold of it, I began carenzaing the hell out of it, and got "the >look" from my Plat-Daddy, which prompted my freezing in mid-roof and running away >with it as fast as I could. So far, he hasn't said anything about it, but it's stayin >g underneath my cot for now. Heh heh.... I've always liked the Woodsman's Pal as the Supreme Ultimate Brush Tool. Are they still getting issued? Have you tried doing carenza with one of them? I usually start out with some double stick patterns and then move to footwork and then put the two together. Then I move into empty hand translations of the movements. I have him work me over with those for a while and then move into the double stick again with the same pattern I used before, but with some modification and expansion on the themes covered so far. I have drill those for a while and then move into the empty hand applications of those new patterns. This lasts about an hour. I would like to continue his growth with the lessons he takes but feel that I might be giving too much too soon. I would like to hear some discussion on lesson structure and experiences with what works best for beginners in garnerning a solid foundation.
