Then 100% probably started in the standup position! So, do not neglect that portion of the training cycle. Gumagalang Guro Steve L. www.Bujinkandojo.net --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "M. R. I am currently going through certification program in Inayan Kadena de Mano and one of my fellow trainees is a juudan (10th dan) in Kempo/Kenpo. He has picked up quickly on the basic hand work and has commented many times on how similar it is to his background, with only some minor differences such as to when and where to smash the guy with your elbow. Makes for some interesting training sessions when he gets going and some of his Kempo/Kenpo starts to work into the drills. A sidenote about this really nice guy- he studied also for 3 years I believe under Ben Largusa or one of his instructors in Kali, and since I'm studying Serrada, when he invited me he brought his sticks- and one of the rattan sticks he pulled out was twice as thick as his forearm, or even thicker. I had not seen such a thick rattan stick before outside of the one Guro Garry Bowldes uses (hey Garry!) (in fact we don't even use rattan, but 100% hardwood)... and, I was very excited to see Silat being taught so close to home to the general public! The place I believe is in Mountain View, if anybody is interested, either inquire at Fit from the Core, or hit me up. I'll be calling Mas Chester today to let him know that I posted this up so that he can be prepared to respond to any and all inquiries. BTW just from what I've observed of Pentjak Silat Manyang it looks to me that it compliments Serrada quite nicely, even any Escrima system really, esp. in the area of footwork. Much triangular footwork. That's just my layman's opinion! Anybody have any thoughts on the similarities? Peace and Blessings, ~John --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? If you see chases on TV series like COPS and other you can say that most fights go to the ground. Rarely I see fights with both experts fight to the ground. I have little trouble to get the Mayor agree with rules, and finally, I got him agree to it. So as usual, no padded, no gear, Un-padded, may be we can have a good fighter out there, specially those people of Luneta, that offer instructorship for few days. Learn from this tournaments I personally challenging your group before offering a few lesson, ang give out certificate, we have enough so called MC Do Arnis over here in US and Europe, dont add some more please. For few days of training what you get Certificate and falls statement, be real guys.. Again, everyone is welcome, No style, No system, Luzon, Visaya and Mindanao. I think its time to see if you can full it off in the ring your skills. NO age limit, no rank necessary, its just you and your stick against your opponent. Rules is simple, Largo Mano, if you get to close before you get hurt bad, they will break you out, but hey keep your guard, it always attemp to attak you while you are off guard is common. If they do, most of it is grabs, locks and hold. I don't know about actual percentages, but most fights I've witnessed in real life have gone to the ground. Seemingly not by choice. Often, it's just the result of a clash: both guys try to aggressively drive forward, basically end up in a standing grapple and end up hitting the ground. Or one guy takes a wild swing that misses, and his forward momentum takes him into the other guy. Obviously, the more training you have, the more likely you are to be able to beat the percentages. But I've found that when one person -- or both people -- are hellbent on developing forward drive without enough counterbalancing control, it's VERY easy to end up on the ground. In sparring, it's different -- things don't start so close-up and explosively, so it's easier to control things through footwork and effective offense. > > > From: Bakbakan@aol.com > > Date: Tue, 20 Jul 2004 16:23:43 EDT > > To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net > > Subject: [Eskrima] re: 90% of fights go to the ground .... uh huh > > Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net > > > > I heard that this number was taken from law enforcement statistics and > that > > the percentile was based on the restraining of criminals.
