Inclusive of us FMA/IMA practitoners - Complacency kills One of my tasks at work is to teach this topic, ASP tactical baton, Defensive Tactics, Edged Weapons Awareness, and a bunch of other stuff to my my employers 400+ officers. Its amazing to me, how many career “Ustabees” forget this daily task and watching the hands even during training. A few months ago I took my family to a local Chinese dining establishment located in the heart of my small communities downtown area. As I drove down the main drag I observed a number of 4-5 Hispanic males standing around the payphones on the outside of a local courthouse. No big thing they use them all the time to call south of the border. However they were making Hard eye contact with my car and the occupants (family members) as I parked across the street from the restraunt and them. As we exited the car, they began to make a beeline towards us from their location. I told my family rather harshly to get around to the front of the car, placing it between them and the now “bracketed” threat. (Traditionally I carry a Emerson Karambit, and Glock 27 loaded with Hydrashocks, especially now, while nursing a frozen left shoulder, greatly limiting my physical abilities.) She Who Must Be Obeyed making a typical sarcastic wife comment about me being “paranoid” to my three kids At the moment they reached 2/3 of the way across the street towards us, a local city PD scout car rounded the corner behind them . Immediately they deviate from us, and begin walking the opposite direction as they step onto “our” side of the sidewalk. I hear a ever so slight clink as the most aggressive looking of them steps up and turns away. We cross the street and have a nice family dinner and I scan the street while leaving the abode. As we approach the car, my oldest son having picking up on the threat is also looking around. We get to the rear of the car, I tell him to look in the gutter where these fine citizens stepped up and low and behold there sits a rusty stained cheap ass Dollar General type 5” bladed kitchen knife. His eyes almost popped out of his head when the reality of what almost happened set in. Be safe and have a survival plan, Fortunately I didn’t have to implement mine....... --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/eskrima Copyright 1994-2004: Ray Terry, MartialArtsResource.com, Sudlud.com Standard disclaimers apply.
