Hi, I asked from BBC if they are selling or have plans to sell the series. They replied that it's not on sale and, quote: "BBC Shop is not responsible for any decisions regarding commissioning of new formats. Any queries relating to the above should be directed to: Commissioning Editor BBC Worldwide Woodlands 80 Wood Lane London W12 OTT" However, since BBC3 is a digital channel, the show is already ripped and encoded to DivX AVI and is available through file share (Point to Point) networks, like BitTorrent. I do not have access to P2P-networks myself, but managed to get a copy by asking around. So, if you have access to P2P like BitTorrent, Emule or such, or have friends that do, that might help. The series has a home page at http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/tv/mind_body/index.shtml which has episode guides and lots of other information about the show. The episodes are quite short, approx. 30 minutes each, the DivX files are about 150 MB each (four per CD, so it's 2 1/2 CDs for the whole show). Already at BBC forums people have been asking about a DVD release, so they actually _might_ release it on DVD. The FMA on the series feature lots of Pekiti Tirsia (GT Gaje, Rommel Tortal and Daniel Foronda), Kombatan (GM Presas), Bakbakan (Chris Ricketts), etc. Also other martial arts featured are interesting. The show does not go too deep into each art, but has some good footage. Someone on the BBC forum suggested a DVD release with lots of material left out from the series as extras. I'd like to see that! - Marko --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Thu, 2 Sep 2004 02:44:18 -0700 (PDT) From: Karol Krauser Subject: Subject: [Eskrima] ... doesn't let this one go..... (Bobbe Edmonds) Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net "I actually kind of like Baboy Damo! One of my Cebuano students happened to mention to me that in Cebu they often call little children "Baboy" as well, and this gets shortened to the popular nickname "Boy" as they grow up." Bobbe, Your Cebuano student is correct. Kids get tired of calling you names as they grow older... so the least they can remember is calling you "boy" and that etched the name to your back like a tattoo. Some eskrima students have distinctive names also - not animals but with different names - sometimes we laughed at it because it's too native to read. Like for instance, Danny "BATO" Suwan... BATO means stone. William "Iring" Fortunato - IRING is cat because he yells and screams so hard during sparring and lastly and a friend of mine used to call him Antonio "LAWAY" Flores - "LAWAY" means saliva. Because he spits his hands and rub it together before he holds his sticks and spars. But with animals, never have to be ashamed for it because it's more civilized as compared to the persons I know. As for us Bobbe, we just have to embrace the names that people gave us... like you have said before , it's better to have an animal name with skills rather than names that doesn't have the abilities. Respectfully, Clint P.S. Bobbe, tell your Cebuano friend/student to spar like Cebuano does - 'ISUG UG DUGO'. He knows. "It does make sense that people might be named according to there animal like attributes...such as howling or screeching, oh and squeeling like a pig when someone puts a lock or compression on one of there porcine like limbs... Yeeech.... Okay, where does a 500 pound gorilla sleep? Anywhere it wants to. That is a direct quote from my attorney regarding where an older child chooses to reside and with which parent. (I have a little experience in this field, having gone through a nasty custody battle). If your 14 year old daughter decides to move in with mom, there is, in fact, very little you can do to stop her -- unless there is extreme extenuating circumstances regarding the fitness of the mother. That's a big part of the reason you ran into a wall. If the kids were 4 and 5 then they would have been more interested in a near abduction. What you can do however, is insist that if mom does take custody, SHE files for the change in the custody agreement. None of this running away from home, trauma drama teenage BS. Make the onus on mom. Here is where you run into the real test of commitment. If mom is doing this just to get back at you, as long as the 14 year old squirrel is hopping around without legal changes in the settlement, the problem/expense is on you. You're paying the cost to get things back to normal. Haha...wonderful way to get back at you. The kid is likely being manipulated and is grooving on a) the attention b) the seeming ease of it all and c) how much fun and freer things are at mom's. If mom is really serious about getting her daughter back then she should pay for getting the settlement changed. It ain't about no teeny bopper telling you she isn't on a plane. This is a grow'd issue and it requires a grow'd up response. That means court filings and proceedings, time, stress and money. As long as you flat out say "No" you're the boogeyman to your daughter. Mom wins. Daughter in typical trauma drama mode hates you for telling her no. If however, you say "You can move in with your mom AFTER the paperwork is cleared up" then you aren't saying no. This does three things. First, it's up to mom to do the work. If she is serious. Then it's going to cost her a whole lot more than just a bout of talking a teenager into calling daddy and saying that she's staying. It is stone cold work, time and money. If this is a game, then odds are it is a whole lot more than she will be wanting to do. Second, it still lets you be the good guy. You are willing -- IF the legal requirements are met. This is not a child's game nor is it about revenge against the spouse (as so many custody cases are) there are serious legal issues and details that must be worked out. Apparently by the tactics they used, the kid doesn't know any better and mom is trying to set up an end run. Don't let that happen. This is an adult situation, with adult consequences and requirements... don't say no, but do say that these adult issues must be addressed. Third is that it gives mom a chance to fall down over the long run. Right now everything looks peaches and cream about running off to CA (trauma drama aside, but don't you know at that age trauma drama is fun). It's easy to bush whack someone with this kind of trickery, but it's hard to keep a consistent face over a long period of time. Time however, is your ally in this situation. By putting it into court you slow it down, no it is not happening now, it is going to happen in a year. A year?!? That's forever for a kid! But many things can change, including mom revealing that living out there might not be such a good idea Long and short of it is you have to be the mature one here. Don't say no. Say yes, but with some serious adult/responsibility conditions. Conditions that are going to take time and work to meet. Like I said, at 14, the courts will seriously weigh what the child wants to do. If it turns into a trauma drama (which it sounds like it has) you're gonna be flying out to the left coast all the time because shit like this keeps on happening. If mom and daughter want this, then they are going to have to work for it. Sit down and explain to your daughter that this is a much bigger issue than her just deciding to move in with mom. It isn't that easy, there are legal requirements, changes in the settlement, court time, lawyer fees and a whole gaggle of other things that have to be taken care of first. You ain't saying no, but this is real life and a very big decision. One that she is going to have to wait for issues much bigger than her little duck feelings to shift and realign. In the mean time, you better believe you are going to be stalling (although with the speed of the courts you don't really need to stall all that much before she is 18). Let her realize the difficulties of jumping ship like this; like abandoning her friends, moving to a new place and living with mom isn't all that great, things still need to be done like school, chores and that there are still rules. I wish I had better news for you, but right now the best I can offer you is "This too shall pass" M --__--__-- Message: 7 From: "Aaron Alejandro" To: Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Sayoc Kali Seminar with Tuhon Kier Date: Thu, 2 Sep 2004 11:27:44 -0500 Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net For the practicing martial artist, this is a must. Something to consider. I've had my share of trouble with them, too. Like I said I think they are geared toward large institutional orders. Backordered items in particular are something one has to keep an eye on. Indeed, there have been a couple of times I've told myself I'll never order from them again, but then find they have the best price on something expensive. Bottom line is if you are looking for simple and easy, don't go with Botach. If cheap and complicated works for you, you'll often find they have a significantly cheaper items.
