Re: small fixed blades (Travis Frink) --__--__-- Message: 1 From: julian.gilmour@barclays.co.uk To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Date: Fri, 10 Sep 2004 15:41:52 +0100 Subject: [Eskrima] The Alien Move and how to be a Drunken Master Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hi all A couple of questions: Firstly, I apologise but I cannot find where the original subject came up, but... what is 'The Alien move'? I thought it might be one of two possibilities. Either putting an open hand over someone's face (which is always a little disorientating), while lining up something else, like Muay Thai 'masking'. Or, (bearing in mind how dangerous some of the people on this list sound), where an extra set of slavering teeth come on a stalk from between your normal jaws and take a bite out of the side of someone's head. Secondly, there is often talk on the list of dealing with people who are 'under the influence' and what works and doesn't work. Someone said to me recently that the chances of getting into trouble (robberies aside) is significantly increased on a Saturday night, for the above reason. He also said that I, also am quite likely to be inebriated. A friend of mine is a third Dan at Go Ju Ryu karate and a 'very hard fella'. Apart from occasional late Saturday night friendly fisticuffs with him, I do absolutely no 'drunken' training. Obviously I can't turn up to my Academy to train in this state. And despite the knowledge that no alcohol, brown rice and fresh vegetables would be the ideal solution to the problem, I would like to find another way of increasing performance if possible. Is it just a simple correlation: the more drunk, the less aware, the slower reactions, the worse the coordination, the more likely to take a beating, or is a little improvement possible? I understand that this is very leftfield, but I think the 'enemy' may not be the only one likely to be (to some degree at least) drunk, and I have never heard reference to this factor.
