I am curious as to how the current practitioners have fared in NHB (as stated on the somewhat occasionally updated website) and if I can find practitioners in the Hawaii area. I would like to train in Muay Thai again but would much rather try out Yaw Yan and stay close to my ethnic roots if possible. My understanding is that it is equally physically strenuous as Muay Thai. --- Answer? Not many here in US few I mean a handful. There is one in NY that I know - but never met the guy and he said he used to teach privately here in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I haven't met his students also because he didn't say their names. Privacy I guess? As for Muay Thai training it is also a good addition to Yaw-Yan but there are two things you need to know also. try thinking of Tae kwon do and Thai Boxing in one system. That's Yaw-Yan. Flexibility and swiftness of the system also combines Arnis and Kung-Fu mainly Tai Chi. Also, I want to have my young son grow up with the Arts so I need to re-start my own Eskrima training so that he and I can both pursue it. Is it safe to travel to Manila and train? I was thinking of the PT group with GM Gaje's organization every year but I am open to other ideas. Comments? Suggestions? --- If you ever going to Manila with your son to train the Art. Get the mailing addresses or telephone numbers as to where you would like to train Yaw-Yan they maybe able to help you. Ask them also where to train "SEPAK TAKRAW" it's the national sport and it's the best training for your young son. What is Sepak Takraw? It's the same concept as of volleyball and badminton but with the use of feet and legs. Then Yaw-Yan will not be a problem. Safety? I don't think it's a major issue. Good Luck. They must be given or inherited from one's teacher or Guro. It would only work for the intended recipient and has no power once that person is gone. Many times they are handed down generation to generation and oftens times tatooed on the body. I do think there is an example of one in Mark Wiley's Phillipine Martial Culture book. Anting- Anting are amulets that have special meaning to the wearer and offer protection along with the Oracion. There are certain rituals to be followed in preparing the Anting-Anting for use. I am sure many more on here can add to this brief explanation!
