BTW, I ordered their entire dvd set. The first 5 mins of dvd 2 was all it took. The instruction, delivery of content and the art itself is triple A rating. Thanks for the heads up. I'll try to make it next year. As for the judging... I will be judging at The Edge stick and knife tournament in Austin on Oct 30th (www.edgefighting.com, sorry for the shameless plug). I can say that hand shots are a pain to call (especially in knife fighting), and that our tournament will not be scored on a "first blood" system. I'll be posting more on the tournament and judging at a later date. WoodyTX On Tue, 3 Feb 1970 02:29:37 -0800, Brad J. Ellis wrote: > OK, that said.... It appears that it was a worthwhile event. Maybe next year for me. Guro Don, I looked at your website and it states that the Master "Dong" Cuesta's PIMA Invitational tournament is Saturday, November 26th. Is it really the 27th? I wish I could make it but it does not seem possible. BTW, I thought one of your students, Tung, grapple well. Nor will you. Bob studied with Willem for a long while, this after having studied other styles, including kempo. We also studied with Steve Plinck for a while. Bob broke away from the whole Dethouars political quagmire to pursue his own teaching and writing. He gives Willem credit for his training because down at the bottomline Bob is a gentleman and an honest person. Having said that, he calls Willem, Bill and occassionally has coffee with him as a friend, but he eschews the behavior that surround the Dethouars and their senior students. Then again, when it comes to that can of worms, I've been amazed at how often people on the internet claim that I studied with Willem or attempt to speak authoratively on why I stopped studying with Steve Plinck, despite neither they or Steve asking me directly. So Bob and I both just give credit where credit is due and go on our merry way. Bob is Bob, and is one of the most analytical martial analysts that I know. He is also a very friendly and open person. Yes, and I was one of the few lucky ones to study Eskritedo. I remember a picture on the wall with the great teacher (Japanese) chopping a bulls horn from its head, of course now you cant do that because of animal cruelty rights, but way back then in the 60's was a little bit different. James Clint Cayson wrote: James, Was he the same guy that who lived in Dumaguete City? If it's him, then Master Jabel was known to the city because of his caliber and his unorthodox Arnis style. I went to take up some summer credits in Silliman University during the 80's when I saw him practice in the plaza. I'm not really sure if he has a school that time because my classmates told me that he teaches and chooses students meticulously. Thought he was an Okinawan and I think if I'm not mistaken he is/was from Cebu province and I also think his style is somewhere between Pekiti-Tersia and Balintawak. Not really sure. Sincerely, Clint ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ thanks a lot for responding...originally I studied this art back since 1984 in the Philippines, in the Negros Oriental province and from my instructor's point of view its a combination of Japanese karate and FMA particularly the Arnis weapon. Founded by Alejandro Jabel - 5th degree Black Belt (GODAN) when he started the school...that's all I know about it, my own instructor passed away a couple of years ago and I have just started teaching my 8 year old son about the art of self defense which I am so grateful to be one of the Filipino Martial Artist to have studied and be able to understand and appreciate on what we've accomplish through all those years...viva pit senyor, viva!!! _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list, 1900 members Eskrima@martialartsresource.net Copyright 1994-2004: Ray Terry and Martial Arts Resource Standard disclaimers apply http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?
