Limbaga who passed away a couple of years ago, good hearted man, I was not in town then...I went ahead and continued practicing Eskritedo without the kata's anymore, just block and counter style, right now I'm in the process of teaching my 8 year old about who and what I am....and yes Eskritedo was a combination of karate (Okinawa) and arnis...and I did saw the Samurai, it was just for eyes only...I have no contact with the school nor with anybody that is affiliated with the school for that matter, except you...in arnis my favorite is the redonda, good for arms exercises, when I moved here in the States I left my arnis (kamagong) back home, excelent weapon...keep me infromed my friend. sincerely james wrote: James, Glad to know that you're one of his students. Vaguely I remember his face but I definitely remember his name - when you were his student, did you see his samurai sword? Stories I heard that the "Japanese" master you told me was a Colonel in Imperial Army stationed in Bais City. After the war he settled in and married a local. Master Jabel was one of his first students. How did I know that? My classmate in Silliman University married the Colonel's granddaughter or his daughter (not sure). I remember the road you're telling me - I think that road still exists. Getting back on the name Eskritedo - probably it means Eskrima and Karatedo. Master Jabel must have created a unique system by combining Okinawan style of Karate and Eskrima. As far as I can remember (hopefully my brain will not play on me) he teaches his students at the town plaza 2 forms of stepping - one I remember a longer front stance (common to Karatedo) and when he uses sticks it's closed quarter and switching them to something like a Balintawak side stepping. Did I get it right? One thing I would like to know though is, where and how did he get the Eskrima training. If I had the chance to study his styles I would but my academic studies was my priority that time. Thanks for the reply and a bit of nostalgia there. Respectfully, Clint ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Date: Fri, 1 Oct 2004 19:04:01 -0700 (PDT) From: jj gayo Subject: Re: [Eskrima] NEF National Eskritedo Federation To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Clint, You're right, and I'm also a Sillimanian graduate...If everything was still the same, I went to their school in Dumaguete to received my Brown Belt back in 1985, his school is located in an area that you have to drive inside and follow a road, I just cant' remember what that area was called, like I said I only went there once since I studied from another town, and yes it was an Okinawan style, the arnis was the one that I didnt had much of an information...thanks a lot for this info, I really appreciate it. Yes, and I was one of the few lucky ones to study Eskritedo. I remember a picture on the wall with the great teacher (Japanese) chopping a bulls horn from its head, of course now you cant do that because of animal cruelty rights, but way back then in the 60's was a little bit different. And it's no more than the truth to call him a gentleman - something which is all too rare these days. It wouldn't be quite accurate to say that Bob was trained in Serak by Steve Plinck. The two have met, got on well together and worked out a few times. That doesn't really constitute significant training in the system. --__--__-- Message: 3 From: "A. Does anybody know of a school there that will allow somebody to drop in and workout even for a day or two? Might they have website/e-mail?
