Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Eleven years ago, I had heard of Jiu-Jitsu, and knew it was the Samurai's open hands art, and had something to do with Judo. I could not have identified it if I saw it, and had no idea it had flourished in Brazil, or that it was effective in the ring. Judging by the "what the heck just happened?" responses of the crowd and announcers, I wasn't the only ignoramus. :-) WoodyTX On Wed, 06 Oct 2004 10:03:06 -0700, George Storm wrote: > Royce's art is Jui-Jitsu and most everyone had heard of it. I've only trained FMA with the Inayan school in San Jose, and with solo teachers otherwise. However, if you like to do weapons sparring, check out my Tuesday night sessions. The next "fight night" is Tuesday October 12 , just south of Redwood City. http://home.att.net/~gints/GFC.htm If you're interested, send me an email. I ask because I ended up in the ER last night with the symptoms of a detachment. It turned out to be something else, but for a while there I was really questioning whether or not I'd be able to continue to train. Apparently, I'm at a higher risk for a tear in my lifetime (1 in 20 chance for those with 5-6 diopters of correction vs. 1 in 10000 for the general population; I have ten diopters in both eyes), and I'd basically like to see how other people in similar situations have fared. > Message: 8 > Date: Wed, 6 Oct 2004 08:11:42 -0700 (Pacific Standard Time) > From: "Todd Ellner" > To: > Subject: [Eskrima] Re: injurie from head butts > Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net > > Michael Koblic mentions that being head-butted can result in "retinal > detachment and consequent blindness". If you live five hours from the nearest eye centre, the roads are snowed under and the helicopters won't fly because of 100km wind, you could be a tad unlucky... Bob and Uncle are relatively close, though. I think that Bob is just trying to give credit where it's due regarding where he got his understanding of some of the principles that he implements. I've been training with Uncle for several years and might be able to answer some questions. However, I just got back from a two week trip and am way behind on e-mail so don't know where this thread originally started. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction and there's nothing much you can do about it. --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/eskrima Copyright 1994-2004: Ray Terry, MartialArtsResource.com, Sudlud.com Standard disclaimers apply.
