I trained for six years before and recently stopped due to moving out of state and lack of anyone to train with. I am near-sighted but didn't take alot of head shots in training. I did have alot of falls, sweeps, etc from Kali, Silat. Most kicks where body shock holding Thai pads or kicks to the legs. I tried to do some research and the only thing I could contribute my detachment too was taking VERY high dosages of Vitamin C I was taking while I was sick. I found a medical study that attributed very high dosages of Vitamin C with retinal detachments. No Vitamin C supplements for me anymore. Still looking to train. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Ray, It took me several attempts to get it. There is also a similar type of left brain right brain practices... using your hands... the right hand is doing the 'circle' in clockwise motion and the left hand will do the "square" motion - counterclockwise. Respectfully, Clint ________________________________________________ While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction and there's nothing much you can do about it. --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Thu, 7 Oct 2004 09:54:49 -0700 (PDT) From: Steve Kohn Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Right Brain/Left Brain ? I was able to do it on the first try without any issues, but then I've spent years attempting to develop what some folks like to call 'quadridexterity'. ;-) Regards, Jeff "There are only five sacred items. I work with mentally ill and emotionally disabled youth and I use this sort of exercise daily with great results. Plus, it is amusing to watch people try this stuff out! -Nat __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Unfortunately, I live in SF and work just south of the city. My schedule and traffic really won't allow me to train in the South Bay or East Bay on a regular basis. I appreciate the links everyone has sent. I just wish that every school I find didn't have a cryptic web page full of broken links. jb On Thu, 7 Oct 2004 09:07:30 -0700 (PDT), Ray Terry wrote: > > I'm looking for an Eskrima school in the SF Bay Area, in SF, Daly > > City, South SF, San Bruno etc. Can anyone recommend a school or 2 for > > me to check out? > > Most of the schools already mentioned are not really in the Daly City, > South City, San Francisco or San Bruno areas of the Bay Area. He is very skilled, but that is a bit of a drive from the South SF area. You might try Guro Mike Castro. His school is in SF. I haven't trained with him, except for about 45 minutes at a seminar session. However, he gave an impressive demonstration at the Day of Play and Community held in SF a few years ago. If I concentrate on the foot I can keep it clockwise. Think about the hand and all bets are off. Whats tougher is maintaining the foot CW, while drawing CCW circles contiouously with the hand.... ---Witchdoctor ________________________________________________________________ Speed up your surfing with Juno SpeedBand.
