I had my annual eye check yesterday. the optician spent an inordinately long time checking my right eye, and asking "do you suffer from headaches?" (nope!) I was then advised to go to the local eye clinic (like, right now, as soon as possible) as I have an enlarged disc at the back of my eye. At the clinic I got the headache question again (but one doctor asked if I get tremors or paralysis) Again nope, but this was followed up with a comment to one of her colleagues that I may need a CAT scan!!!!!!! This was starting to get scary. I've had blood tests done, and will get the results in a couple of weeks. I will eb going back tomorrow as a large floater has formed overnight, and I don't want to go blind! With FMA being in large part a contact sport/activity I wonder, apart from avoiding the full contact section, how long it will take to get good enough not to need to see to be able to do it ;-) Anyone who ahs seen the Mind, Body & Kickass Moves series on BBC3 will get the last bit. There is a great article on Guro Chris Petrilli in it, and he shows some really good locks with the stick. His victim is Sherril Johnson, an instructor out here in Seattle. Also, it's worth it to mention that I am featured on the cover. But only a limited edition printing, the rest have Chuck Norris on it!! ;) Baboy --__--__-- Message: 4 Date: Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:26:34 -0700 (PDT) From: Roberto Trinidad To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] FMA Forum soft launch Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hello, My last post didn't seem to get through so I'm trying again. I've just set up a FMA bulletin board called the FMA Forum and wanted to announce it here. You can access the boards at: http://fmaforum.org or http://fma.rtrinidad.com BTW, I'm Robbie Trinidad, founder of the Pinoy Eskrima Arnis Kali Mailing List (PEAK-L). I used to subscribe to this digest until spam and work made it near impossible to keep up with the posts. It also made it difficult for me to manage PEAK-L hence the new forum. I hope to see you there. -- Robbie Trinidad _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I've been traveling quite a bit lately. Mostly international in recent weeks. As I write this email I'm in my hotel room at the Hotel Pestana Rio Atlantico in Copacabana beach, Rio de Janeiro. As I arrived yesterday and the bellman took my bags from the cab, I was pleased to see neighborhood kids practicing their local style of capoeira while the tourists looked on and gave them money(best way to get paid to practice I guess). It made me think of martial arts in general and its current growth in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Garimot system has practioners in Venezuela and I recently worked out with some guys in Puerto Rico who saw me practice on the beach behind my hotel last week. They enjoyed the workout and supposedly want to continue. They have asked to correspond with me in the future. Hopefully the seeds planted there will take hold and grow. I was wondering, how many other list members currently have students, training brothers/sisters, teachers, etc. that are in South America. As I walk within a 4-5 block radius around my hotel there is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or Grappling Arts center on every block. On some blocks two. Looking beyond the commercialization aspect, I think that South America has very fertile ground for growing the FMA and its various systems. Thankfully, my job allows me to travel often so perhaps there is way to grow our Pilipino brotherhood further. If anyone on the list has an opinion or thought on this I'd very much like to hear it. This will be good - I fought in a couple of the early 90s Sayoc tournaments, which did require some armor (helmet, mouthpiece, groin guard, I think anything else was optional), and they were a BLAST! Can't make this one, though, and not in any kind of shape for it anyways 8-( >NO ARMOR is allowed only a mouthpiece, and protective cup.
