Instructor: "Well, then you close to grappling distance. Everyone knows Java sucks at grappling." Or you could try using another Java client, like Sun's. Go to www.java.com and click on the "Get it now" button. Not recommended for work machines, as MS Java is allegedly needed for some applications. The entire art is based upon the "what if" theory. Every sinareo we perpare for always comes with a "what if" attached to it, its what keeps a method functional! Of course I understand you are talking about something else, I just wanted to mess with you, I haven't been on here for a while in fact I want to re-open your heavey hitters rambling when I get the chance, just been to busy! Many have heart and circulatory problems, diabetes, and other >conditions which could lead to stroke eventually. Brain tumors caused by diet and exercise? Boy, I don't know, but in my amateurish way I've had to learn a lot about tumors recently. The doctors don't seem to think that those are what cause them. You're absolutely right about the importance of lifestyle. A few years back we had a very sad cluster of relatively young deaths among top eskrimadors. How much did smoking and diet-hardened arteries have to do with it? How much better or worse were other generations? Take good care of those arteries. Watch the blood pressure. Run screaming from tobacco. Choose your grandparents carefully. Some martial arts practices like "power breathing" can make you strong but vastly increase blood pressure. A while back I did a very traditional style of Okinawan Karate. They did a kind of reverse breathing where you held you breath and compressed your abdomen most of the time and only relaxed AFTER striking. It did what it was supposed to for armoring the body and giving a temporary boost to strength. When my first Silat teacher saw it he said "Toad, if you do that s**t your guts will squirt out your ass and you'll give yourself a stroke." A couple years later I tracked down the Karate teacher and asked him about that. He said "We don't do that breathing any more. Too many older black belts got strokes and hemmeroids." --__--__-- Message: 7 Date: Tue, 12 Oct 2004 12:40:09 -0400 (EDT) From: Andrew Maddox To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Re: head trauma Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net On Tue, 12 Oct 2004, Todd Ellner wrote: > >Some martial arts practices like "power breathing" can make >you strong but vastly increase blood pressure.
