See http://www.martialtalk.com/ and http://www.martialtalk.com/magazine/subs/ for back-issues. Judging by a quick browsing tournee there seems to be quite a lot of FMA articles (especially Modern Arnis). - Marko --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Steven Lefebvre" To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Date: Wed, 13 Oct 2004 09:45:43 +0000 Subject: [Eskrima] This Weekends Full Contact Event Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hello Everyone, Thanks for all the interest in the upcoming Full Contact No Armor Event coming up this weekend. With many people emailing me offline about the event, please go to the Sayoc forum (www.Sayoc.com) and post your request there, Tuhon Kier will be responding with all the information for those coming to the event, you can also email him directly at Tomkier@Sayoc.com Train Hard, It is the Way!! Guro Steve L. Also, I was asked to forward this along with my message from Tuhon Kier: “From George Storm's comment, it almost sounds like this fellow issued a vague half hearted challenge. The Sayoc Kali organization would like to verify this here on the Eskrima Digest, where he publicly posted his remark about a 'Chris' fighting at our stick event. Perhaps he is just a huge fan of Sayoc Kali and just wants to watch this 'Chris' person participate, but unfortunately George Storm has been Eskrima Digest's unbridled potshotting Sayoc Kali troll for many years now. Check the ED Archives for proof. Therefore, we doubt George Storm's good intentions. We doubt he is even a real person. No one in the Sayoc organization knows who George Storm really is, and yet he writes as if he knows us personally. George Storm can come to the stick fights, but he has to FIGHT. He can NOT come to watch 'Chris' fight (whoever that is...). We have many individuals named Chris in our system. We eagerly await George Storm's reply and his verification. 1. Does he want to FIGHT 'Chris' or WATCH 'Chris' fight? 2. Which 'Chris' is he talking about?” Gumagalang, Sayoc Kali --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Wed, 13 Oct 2004 07:17:12 -0700 (PDT) From: Roberto Trinidad To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Re: awww hell, Animal has been thinking again Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net --- WoodyTX wrote: > WIM: "What if you get a Javascript error?" > > Instructor: "Well, then you close to grappling > distance. One has nothing to do with the other so downloading Sun's Java Virtual Machine won't help. It's usually a browser problem since Microsoft saw fit to implement it's own variant of JavaSript and most web site developers choose to develop for MSIE. This results in a lot of sites failing to for for other browsers. -- Robbie Trinidad http://fmaforum.org _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!? My southern shaolin sifu started me in iron body training, but after a couple of months of it he said "Oh, I forgot to mention - contract your anus each time you hit yourself, or when you're old, you'll be incontinent." I gave up on the training soon after that, wondering what *else* he forgot to mention. Badger Siling Labuyo Arnis _________________________________________________________________ Don't just Search. We've been having Java issues at work, so I was in that mode. Sorry for the confusion. We're all done this before when lifting an object that's just too darn heavy. Although the videos and demonstrations I've seen of this breathing during, say, the Sanchin kata, a shortened version of it is now termed the "Vasalva" maneuver in powerlifting. Health warnings accompany the written descriptions. > >A couple years later I tracked down the Karate teacher and asked him > >about that. He said "We don't do that breathing any more. Although man has been contracting his perineum to increase intrabdominal pressure for all of time, modern powerlifting texts explicitly encourage the practice. A weightlifting belt also increases intrabdominal pressure, although the device actually functions as a crutch . The belt encourages you to lift more weight while providing support that should be developed by other muscles. If your goal is to lift more weight as soon as possible, use the belt. If your goal is to become stronger, don't. Ah young weedhopper... Before you take the responsibility of the problem onto you shoulders, go back and re-read the page. How much of that page is dedicated to pointing out that the problem can, if in not a majority, then a significant number of cases --be with the information being taught? What is missing from the formula that would make the move work? I have a book coming out with a friend named Tristan Sutrisno on "Error Detection" in the martial arts. Looking for, and plugging back in the elements that would make the moves work. When people talk about things have been lost, what they don't realize is how often what is missing is the engine in the car.
