I knew Jimmy back in the day (mid-'80's), and he was one of the most phenomenal martial artists I've ever met...the man is simply incredible. I'd love to get in touch with him again, even if it's just to say hi. You can drop me an E-mail if you like, if you find a way to get ahold of him. Are you anywhere near Camp Victory? I think it's called Camp Freedom now. If so, I'm looking for a training partner. My first passion is the FMA but, I am open to any art. If you respond to this, I'll give you more info on how to contact me. ===== **JASON COUTURE** _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Here is a little more to help you understand the connection. "All Blade All the Time" refers to the Sayoc Kali system that is taught and practiced with blades, not sticks. Sayoc Kali is part of the Sayoc Fighting System which also encompasses all our other non blade weaponry. There are SK instructors who do not train in SFS and vice versa. Below are some details on the Sayoc Kali "All Blade, All the Time" theme: 1. Both individual's are armed 2. One person is armed 3. An individual is armed with a variety of blades on them. 4. A blade may never be visible during the whole time you are being attacked, even though you are being stabbed multiple times. 5. Even when you think an attacker was restrained or taken down, they can deploy a blade. 6. We consider any lethal Puncturing or Cutting implement as a blade. 7. My hand may look empty, but on closer examination I may be armed with a small 2 inch blade. In New Jersey, a Sayoc Kali instructor who is also an LEO responded to a call and at a dark alley an arm suddenly swung at him, but upon defending himself with his impact weapon, he disarmed the very long blade the drugged up assailant was slashing with in the dark. 8. A blade does not have to be in someone's hand to make it dangerous. One can fall on a blade during an attack, it can be thrown or a razor blade can be flicked at your face, etc. 9. A blade can be on another person and there are times when you have access to the attacker's own blade. One of our instructors was once attacked by three thugs, and as the first attacker tried to take him down, he gained access to the attacker's sheathed blade and survived the attack. The Sayoc Kali method builds an awareness that a person can be armed at ANY time of an attack. On the Sayoc Kali webpage, in the FAQ there is more on the SFS!! Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hey Marko, Thanks for the solid feedback,,, As you stated there are some great interviews in the archives and of course Marc Macyoung's interview was very informative as well. It has been mentioned to me in private e-mails that sometimes the written words of people come off aggressive or arrogant and as you listen to them via the audio interviews you gain a different prospective of their personality. There is an interview from Gary O'Neil in the archives that many should find enlightening, Gary was a close friend and team leader of the late Michael Echanis. Gary discusses close death experiences in Viet Nam, Central America, and as a captured prisoner of Rebels in Nicaragua. Losing his family to murder and dealing with life as a warrior of countless conflicts. I also wrote an article back in 1993 for Full Contact Magazine that covered some of Gary's training methods and experiences. Additionally if anyone is interested in hearing of life as a Operative in Afghanistan or Iraq the Kevin Underwood interviews will prove hair raising and enlightening. Underwood is a dynamic martial artist as well as a high speed low drag humble former Special Forces Team Leader. I especially enjoyed interviewing Cacoy Canete even though he was stuck in L.A. traffic on the freeway during the show,,, we just shouted back and forth, he even touched on Anciong Bacon of Balintawak. Anyway, it is a form of documentation of the art and that is what really offers value. Be safe,,, Kelly S. Might want to be careful about those glass walls before you start throwing stones. Besides, although I don't train in Sayoc Kali (I did a bit about 10-12 years ago with Tuhon Chris, met Tom Kier once or twice, and some of the other guys), I'd be very hesitant to criticize anthing about that family's arts. I saw enough in the short time we were getting together with him on an intermittent basis to be *immensely* impressed with even his sons, who were about 11 and 13 at the time. Anybody who can meet Chris Sayoc's standards can *definitely* fight. And the blade awareness they talk about is *very* highly developed, that's no lie. Sure, they have some hype and some marketing, but they can back it up with actions. And they're trying to grow their art while keeping it as true to the roots as they can (I think), and they seem to be doing a good job of it.
