I think it's a very beautiful blade, and widely accepted in Indonesian Silat styles as one, if not the primary bladed weapons used, although Indo-Malay Silat bladed weapons arsenal tends to be the longest and deadliest I've ever seen. But who am I? I would tend to prefer both the Barong and Golok to the Parang, but by no means does that imply that I wouldn't purchase a good one if the price was right ;) ya know? Never hurts to have enough weaponry to fill the walls! My favorites come from the Visayan Islands (where my family lineage originates). Hope that sheds some light!
