The vast majority of your students will either get your name from the yellow pages or from seeing your school. More important than the actual building is the visibility from the road, sidewalk, and parking lot. If you share a parking lot, people will have an excuse to walk by and check you out. It can be really intimidating to walk into a MA school if you've never been in one. ("Do I take my shoes off? What if I offend him? Do I bow?", etc) Somewhat unrelated, you should really look into some "fitness" oriented classes. Maybe only 10% of the population wants to kick ass, but 100% of the population wants to get into shape. Break down whatever art you're using into simple moves anyone can do, and teach lots and lots of reps to a funky bass beat. Length I mean? one dvd, 67 minutes long. Only 3 left at this point. His stuff is ugly-looking and seems crude and clumsy. But he's got superb Silat. He might lose, but the other guys won't win. Consequence of an interesting life that's longer than he had any right to expect. Some time back I saw an interchange between him and someone who was really confident of his anti-knife skills. "What would you do if I did this?" "I'd stab you." [Knife appears] "What if I took that knife away from you?" "Then I'd stab you with this one." [Knife #2 comes out] "Suppose I took that knife away?" "Then I'd stab you with this one." [I could have sworn he didn't have knife #3] "What if I got that one?" "Well then, I'd figure you was serious and I'd just have to shoot you." The quick answer is how could more weapons be a disadvantage?" I can think of a number of theoretical ways. But I have no practical experience. Hence the question. BTW in a recent Krabi Krabong seminar the Ajarn teaching said (and I hope I heard this right) that a) teaching of KK starts with double sword and progresses to a single sword and b) statistically in a fight the single sword tends to beat the double sword. This made me think. I tried to review some of the DB tapes to see what happens to people fighting single v double stick but could not really come to any conclusion. Perhaps Crafty will enlighten us. Perhaps it is a question of the level of training: An interrmediate will be more effective fighting with a single weapon, a true expert will be able to get more out of double weapon. I don't know. Which is why I ask. Michael Koblic Campbell River, BC --__--__-- Message: 5 Date: Mon, 06 Dec 2004 21:32:16 -0500 From: "T. The Grandmaster Jerson "Nene" Tortal is the uncle of Leo Gaje. The mother of Leo Gaje is the sister of GM Tortal. FYI the middle name of Leo Gaje is Tortal. ===== Please visit the Dekiti Tirsia Siradas Website Click to join dekiti-tirsia-siradas __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Take Yahoo!
