Very informative. As I said, this is a whole area for scholarly research. Do you have a website, or just tell us about your school? Jay de Leon --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Doesn't your school do any realistic sparring? Or are you just looking to compete against folks from outside your own training group? The inner city often develops some tough fighters, and some folks who are pretty fight savvy. Some rural environments also develop tough fighters. There are a lot of small towns in which I wouldn't want to have a barroom brawl. Bottom line, the people I know who grew up in "tough" environments have tended to be survivors. But again, different skills are required in each place. Take an Idaho country lad and drop him off in Compton (or Manilla) and chances are good that he won't have the skills to deal with street hustlers et. al., at least initially. But similarly, take a Compton gang banger and drop him above the timberline 40 miles from the nearest road in Idaho and he'd have a pretty tough time surviving as well. Just my thoughts... Those kinds of competitions still exist in some of the town fiestas here.
