I train with a guy I used to work with and his son. He does not "remember" a lot of the history, vocab, drills, etc. Could anyone help us with this? Is there some kind of written curriculum that we could use? Another thing: He says "KALI", but we do not use knive or sticks...yet. When I look up Kali, eskrima and Arnis always show up as well. If anyone could please lead me at least in the direction of the difference between the three, it would be appreciated. I am in Tae Kwon Do as well, mainly because it is the only thing available in my area. Any Help would be great Thank you in advance. I had a big hickory come down in a storm; while I was taking the chainsaw to it I cut a couple mook jong sized pieces. I'm particularly interested in learning what the angles/spacing/size of the arms is supposed to be. But in short, Eskrima/Escrima/Arnis/Kali are pretty much different words for very similar (some would say the same) martial arts. Just as old style Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do are different names for pretty much the same art. Arnis is perhaps the most popular name for the FMAs in the Philippines. Eskrima/Escrima are next. Kali is a name not much used in the Philippines. What are you doing in your training if you are not using sticks, short swords or knives? I have been begging all the old GM of Arnis not only in Laguna, even the one in Quezon, and Rizal. I am hoping that they can teach someone, thier arts and live with the new Generation so when their gone, the arts will continue to live with someone else. I am hoping also, to see more New generation Masters of Arnis, Eskrima or Kali to step forwards and share their arts to us, in any means. Either by means of teaching otheres, or competing against us.. This is the only way to keep the Art alive, pure in the heart of the Filipino people and non Filipino.
