Master Roger was defeated within two minutes, a two-minute match, perhaps. Master Erwin landed thirty hits, and Master Roger made only three hits. I forget The actual name of the match, but I think it's called, largo mano, or long distance stick fight? They each used one stick. It's NOT Ocampo, its De Campo. Master Felix and Master Erwin did NOT visit with the intention of a friendly match. They came as a gesture of brotherhood between fellow stick fighters and this is all. Thirty hits? Were you there to witness this? I was, as a matter of fact, I was the referee. So needless to say I witness it FIRST HAND. Even if you were there, I do not think either party would find it necessary to broadcast it on this forum. With so much detail, weather true or not. The so called match you speak of was nothing more than a friendly game of timing and was NEVER intended to be a competition between two styles. But more of an example of our ideal sparring style. As Master Erwin has said to me personally "There is no such thing as the best styles, only gifted fighters" It is true that we specialize in "Largo Mano" but this does not mean that we lack close quarter techniques. Also, Guro Roger has never claimed to be a "Master" We simply refer to him as "Guro Roger" period I've seen Master Felix Roiles on video, and he's blazing fast, too. Re: "Doce Pares Multi-system. Volume One." I wonder how he would have faired had he been in place of Master Erwin. I have seen Master Felix move in person and can honestly say that he is extremely fast and like Master Erwin, deserves the title of "Master". But I don't see the point in mentioning it. Again because this was not intended as a bragging rights match. After the match, Master Roger still believes strongly in his Ocampo system, according to Master Erwin. I had an impression that this Ocampo system is more of a "street fighter" style than the old Cebuano Doce Pares? Can you guys tell me more about this Ocampo system? I'm just curious. I was told that it's an offshoot from Doce Pares, like these other systems. Guro Roger has strong convictions about Decampo but he also respects the convictions of other practitioners of their own styles. He does not impose his on others. Your information is way off. De Campo is NOT an offshoot of Doce Pares. De Campo is in fact short for "Eskrima de Campo JDC-IO", which is related to De Campo Uno-Dos-Tres Orihinal. "Street Fighter" huh? I not sure if that is a compliment or not..... I don't know much about the art, so far. I began my training recently. I wished I had participated in our gym class back in high school, because arnis is taught in high schools, too. I don't even know what style they teach in Notre Dame de Manila, but I suspect it's probably the Balintawak style, as it's just a few blocks off the that part of Manila called, Balintawak. While you may be new to the arts, common sense would seem to have some play here. Either intentionally or not this was a highly insulting request for information and very uncalled for. Master Erwin found a disturbing practice; these Ocampo students only wore arm pads, and not the full gear used by WEKAF, or any other sort of protection. After the match, however, Master Erwin suggests that students should be encouraged to wear the WEKAF gear. Master Erwin used to practice with no gears too, and found that it's ridiculously unsafe. I don't like the WEKAF outfit too, it's too loose, and the back straps don't hold well. We do full contact sparring with minimum protection. For example, helmet, gloves and forearm protectors are utilized. Guro Roger refuses to use forearm protection when he spars. Part of the skill enhancing spar drills is hand hitting. This proves to be very difficult because of the high degree of control that is required. Not to mention including footwork along with powerful and accurate strikes. Anyway, Master Roger seems like a nice guy, said Master Erwin. I met him too, he seems nice. Master Erwin is not a show off, and welcome new friends. So, a friendly match after all, and they remained friends. We hold Master Felix and Master Erwin in high regard and we hope that this unfortunate turn of events will not affect our friendship. In closing I would like to thank Mr. Terry for allowing me to post this and to all of you thank took the time to read this. Earlwin can you provide more details on where and when the strikes landed from both masters? Did any of the masters called the match a largo mano match? Cogie, please divulge the something that you would speak. We are in the middle of some cold months so some flames (which just may be some intelligent thought) would be inviting now. Looks like I've got a pretty good start on a spring project. Second I'd like to wish all list members a happy new year. The many thoughtful and well informed ED participants continue to make it the valuable resource it is. Thanks much for your contributions of the past year, and for those to come. Finally I'd like to thank Ray Terry for hosting and moderating the ED. One doesn't have to search very hard to find a lot MA twaddle out on the internet, nor is it hard to find folks online who mistake their pathologies and agendas for cogent contributions. Can't think of anyone out there who does a better job of hosting an open forum without letting things oscillate out of control. Thanks, Ray, for providing this resource, and for contending with the slings and arrows that come with it.
