Point taken. As I said, I don't dismiss the idea that the variant spelling is used elsewhere in the Philippines. -------Original Message------- I come from Pampanga and over there we spell it with a "k". I've been to Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija and it is also pronounced as such with a "k". That was my experience growing up there. I think it is also regional. Take for instance about the difference regarding patis(fish sauce) and toyo(soy sauce) between some Visayans(not sure if all Visayans though)and other provinces. My friend, a Visayan, calls the soy sauce as patis(instead of toyo) and the fish sauce as rufina(instead of patis). However latiko/latigo is spelled at least it points to the same article and not become a subject of confusion between two sauces, hehehe.
