Then there are two other master level teachers in the Paranaque area. If you're interested, please email me off the list and I can tell you how to contact them. Also, you may want to check out Bakbakan's gym in Makati, run by Master Christopher Ricketts. He teaches Kalis Illustrisimo along with sagasa kickboxing and ngo cho kun. Again, if you're interested, please email me off the list on how to contact him. Bot --- "EDUARDO R. MENESES JR" wrote: > Hi Aldrin, > > Im glad that you're as keenly interested in fma > as well. Backyard includes garage, driveway, patio, park, open basketball and tennis court, etc. In my case, at one time, it included an alley adjoining my garage dojo. If you, or anybody you know, had this kind of operation, AND IF you have picture(s), please email me details and the picture(s) privately. No promises, but I will include your submission with the proper acknowledgement if it fits the article. Thank you, Jay de Leon __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I'm not sure of Master Romy's email address these days and Master Ricketts can be obtained from bakbakans website. In Paranaque, there is Master Roberto Labaneigo of the Top Labaneigo Arnis style. He specializes in Espada Y Daga and knife defence. Hope this is of use. Please email me for his contact details. Regards, Doug Date: Wed, 16 Feb 2005 18:26:28 -0800 (PST) From: "EDUARDO R. The wood dents, unlike rattan that shreds after a while. It is about the same weight per length as rattan and if you buy it in staff lengths, cheaper than rattan. - hickory : I have tried hickory sticks from several makers and have not had good experiences with any of them. However, I have a couple of hickory ax handles that have done well. - cocobolo: Tends to have catastrophic failures and sends pieces flying when it does. - purple heart: Same as cocobolo. - every other wood you found useful: I have a couple of old police sticks, 26" and 36", that just keep taking a beating and keep on ticking. Both are about 2x weight per length as rattan. Cheers Jim "Taking life on the chin is all fine and well, but when life throws you a pile of shit best learn to bob and weave." I just joined this list this week, I didn't know that it even existed before that. I just wanted to introduce myself: My name is Shawn Keren, I have been studying FMA for about 18 years and am currently a 2nd degree black belt in Doce Pares Eskrima under Grand Master Cacoy Canete. I am also a 2nd degree black belt in Wun Hop Kuen Do under Professor Al Dacascos. I've studied WHKD with him for 20 years. I've noticed that most of the posts that I've seen are from folks in the Pilippenes, I know that there is a thriving comunity of FMAers here in the states and look forward to hearing from you folks as well. I'm actually a proponent of the (ancient) "3 Candle Treatment" for the common cold: 1. Light a candle 2. Start drinking whiskey 3 When you see three candles, blow to middle one out and go to bed. I haven't had luck finding it mentioned anywhere but on some shady-looking staff dealing web sites, and I'm very curious. Noone who teaches me has heard of it. However, if it's actually a decent material I'd be very pleased. The prices on it don't look very prohibitive. Oh, and my own sticks right now are rattan, plastic tubing (sheesh), and this weird 1/2 x 24 inch stick which appears to be tightly curled fabric impregnated with resins or bakelite. Thin, heavy, and strong. :D On Thu, 17 Feb 2005 22:57:49 +0100, Alex 'Twist' Bohusch wrote: > Hello, > since we had a discussion about sticks and stick materials on a German > FMA-board I thought I could make the topic international ;) > > I'd like to know what stick materials you're using and whats the pro / > cons of the materials. > > Sticks I know and own: > > - rattan (of course) - every-day sticks > - labsika rattan - lighter and harder ..
