Tomorrow is Holy Wednesday means 10 am to 3 pm all Eskrimadores of Paete, wearing a Centurion wooden mask and Roman Soldier uniform and walk all over the town to look for other Eskrimadores and everytime, they meet in the street, they will dance with the Traditional "Pamamaltacia" or Carenza, till they meet in the middle and start exchanging strikes and counters to each other like the Gladiator. This Sparring matches is fun to watch, its controlled so is not trying to kill each other, is strictly fun, fun, fun play for them. Open time, the fight go hard but enought understands that only doing this for the sake of their "Panata" Oferring to the Holy week. If you miss the Wednesday matches, Thursday is a whole day walking while beating Jesus caring the cross, and Friday they will crussified jesus and after 3 pm, the matches again start. By the 3 pm after of Jesus Crusifixion, all "Eskrimadores" wearing Centurion will form into a big circle and start picking each other matches for free sparring, again each sparring is controlled. Be there early if you are planning to watch, it will be crowded, is being watch by thousand of people of Paete, and other town in Laguna and a lot of tourist watch this too. Think of the blade as a back-up to the folded knife, which is an extremely effective weapon in and of itself. We practice the pocket stick not only as a weapon that stands on it's own, but also as a training tool for the balisong. The blade is there at your disposal if things escalate to the point of deadly measures. I see no reason whatsoever to carry something that says "this guy thinks about knife fighting".
