The chance to square off against someone I didn't know and see how it came out. I've had the priviledge to compete in many different ruled events. Some hosted only the weapon to strike with, others allowed you to punch and kick and some even allowed the grappling as well. Then some had real sticks, can rattan, hard padded sticks and soft sticks. The equipment we used also varied but always made it interesting. Ultimately in the end it is just a fun day of sparring with someone's rules. I think that if we can look for the happy medium between the exchanges it helps. Some event rules are more "atomic clock" or who gets there first. Others are who gets there the most or with harder strikes. The others are only until the time runs out or submission. I like the idea of getting a clean cut on my opponent and getting out safe and untouched. To be honest in a bladed confrontation, I don't want to give up any shots to my opponent :) Just my thoughts. Thanks, Larry Woody said: >We've made some changes in the rules for the Edge 2005 tournament >(shameless plug: www.edgefighting.com April 16th; it's not too late to >compete), and in the debate over "ring vs. reality", we've had more >than a few discussions on the rules. Christopher Yabut (50-55 kgs.), Emmanuel Baesa (65-70 kgs.), Marniel Dimla (70-75 kgs.), Neil John Ballos (80-85 kgs.), Larry Sarreal (open) and Alelie Hernandez (women's solo) topped their respective divisions while Nerlyn Huinda (50-55 kgs.), and Al-Jabbar Sangkula (55-60 kgs.) accounted for the two silver medals won by the RP team in the event also partipated by tough SEA Games rivals. The performance of the RP squad is a big boost for the country's bid in the coming SEA Games where it hopes to win the overall title. They are hoping to win at least five golds in the biennial event. "The tournament featured the best athletes from Europe and Asia and we did not expect to win the overall championship. But our athletes are determined to win medals, they wanted to show that they are deserving to compete in a high-level tournament like the Paris Open," said Philippine Pencak Silat Association secretary general Datu Abdilnasser Kiram who called from Parais. Kiram, also a member of the national coaching staff, said the Paris Open served as a tuneup tournament for the nationals. "We joined the Paris Open to gauge the performance level of our athletes against leading players from Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, which are strong contenders in the SEA Games. Indonesia sent a demonstration team while Vietnam, which has been dominating the sport since the 1997 Jakarta Games, did not participate," noted Kiram. "We are very thankful to the First Gentleman Foundation and the Pencak Silat godfathers for sponsoring our trip here. We did not not disappoint them because we're coming home with six golds and two silver medals," said Kiram. The RP team is arriving on Sunday. --__--__-- Message: 8 From: Ray To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net (Eskrima) Date: Thu, 31 Mar 2005 12:47:05 -0800 (PST) Subject: [Eskrima] Cacoy's new website Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Cacoy's new website. http://cacoydocepares.com Ray Terry rterry@idiom.com --__--__-- Message: 9 From: Ray To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net (Eskrima) Date: Thu, 31 Mar 2005 18:22:58 -0800 (PST) Subject: [Eskrima] cabales.com ??
