(PRWEB) April 1, 2005 -- The grand master Antonio Somera, come from Stockton (cradle of the Kali in America), will give a seminar of Arnis / Escrima / Kali, next May 28 and 29 (10:00 to 14:00 h) in Madrid (Spain [Europe). The grand master Tony Somera is the unique person authorized by the grand master Leo Giron to lead the Giron Arnis Escrima, after 25 years of constant classes and personal training with the teacher Leo Giron (Dan Inosanto's grand master). The grand master Somera offers us the opportunity to learn the skills of combat proved really in the Second World war for the grand master Giron as well as the rich Philipine culture and the Philipine history. The seminar will be represented by several instructors of the system Giron Arnis Escrima. "I have always found GM Tony to be a very skilled and knowledgeable instructor in the Bahala Na system. GM Tony has the integrity, morality, and honesty needed to lead the Bahala Na Martial Arts system for future generations." -Dan Inosanto Certificates of assistance will be delivered. --__--__-- Message: 2 From: Kes41355@aol.com Date: Fri, 1 Apr 2005 16:02:14 EST To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Re: Serrada Eskrima Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net In a message dated 4/1/2005 6:58:11 AM US Eastern Standard Time, eskrima-request@martialartsresource.net writes: I am searching for the birthplace of Grandmaster Vincent Angel Cabales, so far I have found numerous websites and people who claim to have the answer but most are conflicting. Can anyone help? I have ordered the Wiley's book hoping its there, I am not looking for anyone to give me an answer just point me in the right direction Hi Matt, The conflicts you are running into concerning credible information about Serrada is, sad to say, the norm in the Serrada "family." I will probably get a lot of flack for what I'm about to say, but I've been around Serrada since 1978, so I think I have something to say here. I did not know GM Angel personally, only vicariously through 3 people who studied extensively under him. Up until Angel died in 1991, the history and particulars about the system were well understood; there was no debate. We all knew where Angel got his knowledge, what art he studied, and how Serrada came to be. We also knew, without ANY doubt, who the top students under Angel were; that was also well understood throughout the entire Serrada community. However, since Angel passed away, so many pretenders have come out of the woodwork that I am not at all surprised when folks say that they run into nothing but conflicting information when trying to learn more about this style. I try not to get too involved in the debate, because as I've said, I've been around a long time, I got my information for credible sources within the Serrada community, and can only shake my head and wonder how we expect the general public to take us seriously when there is so much dissension among Serrada players. If you want any other info, I'd be happy to tell you what I learned way back when, and from who, but only through private E-mail...no sense in stirring the pot further here. Was Graciela Casillas a > guest at the tournament? Now there's a real fighter. Since there weren't any instructional seminars, I assume she was just there to watch the tournament action. You'll notice her watching in some of the indoor sparring pics. I just happened to catch her doing some sinawalli/free flow in the park with Alfredo Bandalan, and they were gracious enough to allow a picture.
