The sale created a legal dilemma because China has no law covering the ownership of virtual weapons. The China Daily newspaper reported that a Shanghai court was told Qiu Chengwei, 41, stabbed competitor Zhu Caoyuan repeatedly in the chest after he was told Zhu had sold his dragon sabre, used in the popular online game Legend of Mir 3. The online game features heroes and villains, sorcerers and warriors, many of whom wield enormous swords. Qiu and a friend jointly won their virtual weapon last February and lent it to Zhu, who then sold it for 7,200 yuan. Qui went to the police to report the theft but was told the weapon was not real property protected by law. "Zhu promised to hand over the cash but an angry Qui lost patience and attacked Zhu at his home, stabbing him in the left chest with great force and killing him," the court heard. 'Private property' Newspaper reports on the incident did not specify the charge against Qiu but said he had given himself up to police and already pleaded guilty to intentional injury. No verdict has been announced. More and more online gamers are seeking justice through the courts over stolen weapons and credits. "The armour and swords in games should be deemed as private property as players have to spend money and time for them," said Wang Zongyu, an associate law professor at Beijing's Renmin University of China. But other experts are calling for caution. "The assets of one player could mean nothing to others as they are by nature just data created by game providers," an unnamed lawyer for a Shanghai-based Internet game company said. -Reuters --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Marc Denny" To: Date: Sat, 2 Apr 2005 11:18:17 -0800 Subject: [Eskrima] Tony Somera, GM Giron Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Woof All: Does anyone have contact info for Tony? I would like to send him a complementary copy of the 30 piece on GM Giron which is being added tot the conversion to DVD of our "The Grandfathers Speak". Btw folks, we have put a lot of work into this piece which is based upon a 30 minute interview I did with GM Giron in his training hall/basement in 1991.. Editor Ron "Night Owl" Gabriel has done a stellar job of weaving in WW2 footage, training footage and other footage. (thanks to Sonny Izon, producer of "An Untold Victory" and others). A lot of heart in this one. The Adventure continues, Crafty Dog PS: Thanks for the notice of the Madrid seminar. As a former Wing Chun practioner I echo your sentiments. I trained during the whole William Cheung / Emil Boeptze (sp?) beef when Emil actually attacked Sifu Cheung during a seminar in Germany. Flash forward several years and its still going on! Just recently Grandmaster Leung Ting split with Emil - his former prized student and intended inheritor of his system. It was the constant feuding in Wing Chun that led me to the FMA upon my arrival in Florida. It's been an honor to live, eat, work and train and get bruised with other FMA students and teachers of all systems. Thankfully, Gat Puno Abon has stressed the concept and importance of brotherhood amongst all his students. This, in turn, was reciprocated by the many FMA practioners and teachers I've come into contact with over the years. May we never go down the "dark path" . Ligitimate criticism should always be welcomed, especially if its asked for. Let's leave the politics in Washington. I had the honor of meeting Master Rey Galang in the Philippines and I found him to be a not only a very honest man, but a source of information when it comes to the Filipino martial arts. Even when we conducted the interview with him (incidently which was published in a number of countries and can be read at www.bakbakan.com), there was simply loads of information and knowledge recorded. Afterall, his lineage is impeccable and his has set some impressive standards in the promotion of the Warrior Arts of the Philippines. All the best with the event and I am sure many dedictated practitioners of FMA will attend. Best wishes from Australia, David --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?
