The cost is $295 for the camp which includes dorm space and cafeteria facilities. This means training, room and board for one cost. Often the room and board will const ~$295 alone. Instructors will be Senior Master Roland Dantes, Datu Shishir Inocalla, Datu Dieter Knuttel, Master at Arms Bram Frank, Senior Master Dan Anderson, Guro Robert Quinn, and special guest instructor Sensei Doug Perry. As a very special guest, world reknown martial arts author Robert W. Smith will be making a special appearance as well. This is going to be a great camp and I invite one and all to come and be a part of it. About seven years ago I used to watch a martial arts documentary program on tv on MBC (if i remember rightly, its an arabic channel), which used to contain a little storyline about why the martial artist had to fight, then they'd showcase the martial art of the weeks moves, be it aikido, kalari-payat, etc, and somewhere in the middle, they used to have a silat lesson featuring small children in black gi's being taught by an older gentleman. Bizarrly, the art was obviously supposed to be silat, but looked all the world like generic karate, but with "silatized" moves (cue lots of "swatting fly's", and wide eyed staring). Even the edition where they showcased different forms of real silat systems, they still showed the same crappy version with the kids in the middle. How they thought what they were doing was even remotely the same thing is beyond me. Used to have it on video, but we all know what happens when we lend them out........ ;) Regards, Matt Barclay ___________________________________________________________ How much free photo storage do you get? I am curious about why most of the martial arts world knows so little about indonesian arts. Everyone seems to be wanting to claim some relation to arnis, silat, kali, and of a long list but none of them seem to show much real knowledge. Then again, there are a bunch of really good schools out there as well that are teaching the real thing. But I wonder why you never see those schools on tv. I've learned from various Pekiti people and they each had thier own teaching method, but the majority seemed to have an organic nature to it like Leslie mentioned. Even when there was more structure than what you describe, it seemed like I was drilling the movement for a while before I was given the name for what I was doing. I this other people's perceptions as well? I'm also curious from those who learned directly for tuhon gaje rather than - like me who leaned from someone else first, in what order he presents the system to a brand new person, what he chooses to present first, second, etc. Andy -- "Leslie L. Buck Jr. TKA" wrote: My training in Pekiti Tirsia from my original instructor Mataas Na Guro Erwin Ballarta, as well as that from Tuhon Gaje has always been reactive in nature rather than by the numbers. I was never given by either instructor a list or sets of techniques or movements except abecedario (1-12). What this means is I feel a great sense of confidence with what I learned this way, but I am left to find the academic structure myself. --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/eskrima Copyright 1994-2005: Ray Terry, MartialArtsResource.com, Sudlud.com Standard disclaimers apply.
