I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge one of the most skilled martial artist/instructors of our time. While I admit that I haven't met all the big names (yet), my list of the best martial artists of our times is very short... Datu Kelly Worden's seminar in Topeka on March 12-13 was excellent! I have often said that Worden is one of the best martial artists of our time. It was great for my students and other participants to experience this firsthand (up-close and impersonal). Participation: The seminar was well attended with martial artists from Topeka, Junction City, and Wichita, Kansas; Columbia, Springfield and Jefferson City, Missouri; Peoria, Illinois; and Dallas, Texas. We also had three different law enforcement organizations represented. Teaching Method: Datu Worden was excellent in his teaching abilities. His material is complex yet easy to comprehend. He built up the topics with precision- adding one or two variations as we went along. He also kept tying things together. A special treat was at the end where we showed how everything related back to the beginning. I'm sick and tired on going to seminars and realizing I only learned one thing. Worden ran the whole gambit while maintaining a thread of similarity that forces participants to remember previous material. Out of all the Modern Arnis practitioners, he has the most depth. Character: Many seminar instructors carry a feeling of aloofness about them. But not Datu Worden! He's friendly and will also any question you have. He does not hold back and tends to be frank about his assessments. Some of his comments may be considered distasteful and his language offensive but none of the participants seemed offended. One person commented that this added to the realism and intensity of what would be experienced on the streets. His sense of humor kept participants engaged. While teaching, he constantly had the room roaring with laughter. More comments from participants: One officer wrote, "On behalf of our Police Department, I would like to thank you for the Martial Arts Training this past weekend. My fellow officer and I thought this was the best and most rewarding training that we have attended. Datu is an exceptional and knowledgeable instructor. His personally enhances the participants' retention of the skills he taught us. Again thanks, I really appreciated this training. Another person said, "This guy is spooky. Nobody moves like that!" If a martial artist, military trainer, or law enforcement defensive tactics instructor has not experienced Worden's amazing skills firsthand, they have to see him. For those who already have, you know what we mean. Merchandise: He had a lot of material to sell at his seminar including DVDs, videos, Wortec knives, and impact kerambits. This, along with bruises, helps participants take home happy memories. Like most martial art video consumers, I'm sick and tired of paying for overpriced material. However, Worden's videos are extremely affordable and are a great value. They are jam packed with lots of great techniques and useful information. I especially enjoy his newer material where one can see how his art has evolved into highly efficient concepts/techniques. Overall Analysis: It is not everyday that a group from Kansas gets to train with one of the most sought-after martial artists of our time. Datu Kelly Worden was awesome and the event was highly successful! I highly recommend him. _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web! --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/eskrima Copyright 1994-2005: Ray Terry, MartialArtsResource.com, Sudlud.com Standard disclaimers apply.
