I was not aware of the arrangement you describe. I truly appreciate your pointing this out. Once again, miscommunication has reared its ugly head. I have written to Mr. Galang to apologize for any misunderstanding my earlier post might have caused but unfortunately my email to him bounced. Perhaps I can email it to you, and you can then pass it on to him. Thank you. The surface should be even and free of debris, a wooden, concrete, vinyl or canvas surface is ideal, though any type of surface will suffice as long as it remains dry and clear of debris. Two lines should be marked on the floor in the center of the ring, 6 feet apart. These marks are intended as "toe" lines for the fighters to assume either at the start of a round or when instructed to return to these marks by the referee, during the course of a match. Other equipment should include 3 corner chairs for the judges, a table and chairs for officials, jury and timekeepers. A bell or a Whistle should be provided to each ring to be used by timekeepers to signify the start and end of a round. Contest: Each Match will be held over 3 by 1 minute rounds with a 30 second break between rounds Striking is allowed to any part of the head, arm, leg or body - except, no thrusting to the face, no striking from the knee down to the foot, no striking to the groin or neck, and no striking to the back of the head or back of the body. At the beginning of a round the contestants shall come to the center of the ring with the referee standing in between them, face the jury and bow, then stand on the toe lines, face each other and upon the command of the referee bow to each other, they will cross sticks and upon the command "Fight" the contest will begin. At the end of the match the contestants will return to the center of the ring and stand facing each other, upon the command "bow", will bow to each other, then turn to face the jury and again execute a bow at the command of the referee and stay at center ring until after the announcement of the decision. When a round ends, or when the time allotted for the match expires, the timekeeper shall signal the referee by the sounding of a bell or whistle. Any technique that lands as the bell or whistle sounds to end a round shall be considered as valid. Any technique that lands when one or both contestants are outside of the contest area shall be considered null and void. Any techniques that land while the competitors are inside the contest area shall be considered valid even if one of the contestants falls down or lands outside of the contest area. Judgment of Contest: The contest shall be judged by a panel of 3 judges, their decision shall not be appealed, and the referee has no say on the decision. The judges will be positioned at 3 of the 4 corners of the contest area, and shall not encroach into the contest area. When the time limit expires without any player having lost, by technical knockout (TKO) or referee stopping contest (RSC) the referee shall require both contestants to return to the original position at the start of the contest. The referee shall then collect the score cards from the judges and hand them over to the jury. After checking the score cards the jury shall announce the decision. The judgment call of a "draw" shall be made when the results of the contest reaches a tie. - In the event of a draw, the contest shall be extended for another round of one minute duration. - Should the extension fail to break the tie, then another extension shall be granted. Legitimate strikes or blows include slash, thrust, and butt. However, for the safety of the contestants the organizers may limit or totally exclude the application of thrust or butt, upon the approval of tournament organizers. System of Scoring: Scoring: - A contestant makes more hits to the body, head and arm. - When a contestant goes down from any legal thrust or strike. - When a contestant looses his stick, as the result of a disarming technique or his stick is knocked from his hand. - When a contestant retreats from the competition area (both feet leave the mat) after first being warned by the referee. Scoring shall be by the "10 point must" system. The winner during the round gets 10 points, while the looser scores anywhere from 9 to 7 points, depending by the decisiveness by which the former won the round. The "10 point must" system of scoring shall be applied as follows: - Even round...................................10 - 10 - Slight edge....................................10 - 9 - Wide edge....................................10 - 8 - Overwhelming or one-sided.................10 - 7 In scoring a contest the elements of offense, defense, clean hitting, command of the ring, technique and sportsmanship, shall be carefully considered. No Weight Divisions: Open Style Competition. Safety Equipment to be Used: It is mandatory that each competitor is required to wear the following protective equipment... - Groin protector - Women should also wear a chest protector - A mouthpiece - A protective headgear (the competitors should wear either a paintball style mask, that protects the eye's, ear's, face and cheeks, or a fencing type wire mesh mask) - Gloves are optional - Forearm protection is optional Weapons for the Match: Competitors will use flexible rubber blades that have broad flat edges, so that they may be coated with lipstick or other easily seen type of marking substance, this is to facilitate the referee in accurately tracking the effects of the knife strikes on the face, body and limbs of the protagonists. The Contest: - Held over one 3 minute round. With the referee calling points as he sees them. One of two corner Judges must concur for the points to be awarded. The first competitor to score 12 points wins. Or the competitor leading with the most points at the end of the 3 minutes wins. If the match goes into overtime (because of a tie) the winner will be decided on the "sudden death" principal. That is the first to score a valid blow during the overtime round will be declared the winner. Striking is allowed to any part of the head, arm, leg or body - except, no striking to the groin or neck, and no striking to the back of the head or back of the body. Any technique that lands as the bell or whistle sounds to end the match shall be considered as valid. The Scoring System: Because real edged weapons cause damage to an opponent by either cutting or puncturing the following system is to be used to replicate the effects of various blows. -A Cut or Slash to the Hand, Arm or leg will score 1 point. -A Cut, Slash or thrust to the Head or Chest will score 2 points. -A Cut, Slash or Thrust to the Abdomen, below the line of the ribs and at or above the waist line will score 3 points. A referee and two corner judges will be used to score points for the match. The Judges will be given two batons or flags, one colored red and the other colored white. When the referee calls a point, at least one of the two corner judges must concur with the referee in order for the point's to be awarded. A Scorekeeper will record the point tally during the match for both the Red and White competitor. And a timekeeper will time the match for 3 minutes, only stopping the clock when the referee calls "break" and resuming the countdown when the referee calls "fight". The time keeper shall signal the end of the match to the referee through the use of a bell or whistle. Foul Techniques: A. Holding, pushing, grabbing, punching, kicking, fist, elbow, knee or any karate blow and the like. B. Hitting an opponent who is down or who is in the act of rising or signals to surrender. C. Hitting when a contestant turns his back to surrender. D. Deliberately going outside the contest area. E. Stopping to adjust or fix clothing or protective equipment without the referee's permission.
