If this is a first article, editing for space will surely make it even more complicated. I think that most people still do not understand "distance". I don't think they will get "triangular crashing", heirarchial fighing. Sometimes I think it is easier to explain a "technique" via a cookbook than explain the concepts of the technique. Example...student...this is pak sao lop sao. Later you teach him pak sao lop sao but it is now HIA. I think you are asking the reader to make a "leap" in conceptual thinking. But wow I love the name KT and what it represents. I want to see more of "your" packaging and delivery system. Regards, C. H. Fung, D.D.S. Do you have any advice regarding longevity in full contact style training? I'm 27 and I'm watching many of my contemporaries sidelined permanently because of injuries, so this longevity issue is coming more and more to the fore. I eagerly await the emergence of Kali-Tudo into the competitive mma arena. Again, my best wishes for your continued success. Tim Fong>> Tim, I thought I would comment on not getting hurt. I've been in FMA/boxing/Muay Thai/grappling for 30 years with nothing more than brusies. My secret does not come from my awesome skill as a martial artist but my lack of skill. As a late bloomer I was never chosen to as the first kid to move to the adult class or represent my school or train with the hardcores so I never got hurt. Perserverance at your level and rate is the key to success. Today I train with some of those hot shots from the original JKD class from the old kali academy and the old instructors from the early IMB, that is my vintage, but many of those hotshots are battered warriors. Watch your dayjob. Some jobs will kill you. Stay healthy and don't overtrain, don't burn out, keep the highest awareness and you will have a long succesful life in the martial arts. As Crafty says soemthing like be "a warrior for all the days of your life". The biggest war you will fight is time. Regards, C.H. Fung, D.D.S. As a coach in his CSW system im aware that there is a mix but many simply wouldnt see it. Marc McFann's grappling methods use a great deal of Silat. Ron Baliki im told is the same. the list can go on.... The plain truth is that there are similar techniques in every art but because the environment dictates the differences we are sometimes blind when they appear in other forms. I have arm drag training from bjj, dumog, thai, silat, fma knife......but when its used in a mma fight apparently im told its a superior greco roman technique. duh! The invitation for past (and present) Inayan Eskrima practitioners to join in the memory of Suro Mike Inay is for June 10th (Friday) from 8:00pm to 11:00pm at Dave & Busters in Milpitas, CA. Also, this is a side event to the rest of the Inayan Gathering and is not part of the training or other events planned. In other words, it does not cost anything to come and no affiliation is required. We look forward to an enjoyable evening held in the memory of our mentor, the reason for our common bond, Mangisursuro Mike Inay. He incorporates Harimau Silat that he learned from Herman Suwanda and Dan Inosanto. I've seen him roll with people and pull that stuff out of his extensive bag of tricks with great success on a number of occasions. He's graduating from OSU law school and will be moving to the Las Vegas, Nevada area with his girlfriend very soon. Will be taking the bar out there in July. HIs background is in Chung Do Kwan TKD and Vee Jiu Jitsu. He would like to check out the FMA in that area and get into it after everything settles down. Any FMA information for that area ?
